Round lens Square sensor

What if the new FF has a square sensor?? anyone think the same. If the new teles cover more than FF (35mm) then that could be the reason. A square sensor that is cropped to what format is needed, also for pixel shifting maybe. The prism looks alot like an old 6x7 MF Pentax...
I do wonder.........

Yes, it does look like the newer Pentax 67II. I realize the branding on Pentax's 6x7/67/67II may be confusing to the uninitiated but for those of us shooting them it's like saying your K5II looks like a K-01. So here is what my Pentax 67 looks like in the spirit of learning more about Pentax's legacy product line.

To be a true full frame 35mm sensor, the sensor would have to be 24x36, otherwise it would be another format.

It looks like dozens and dozens of Pentax 35 mm cameras that have prisms as well.

The image circle for 36x24 FF has to have an image circle of at least 6√13 = 21.63mm radius for the corners to be covered. Existing lenses impose this constraint (ignoring hoods for the moment). A square sensor with the same radius image circle would have sides 6√26 = 30.59mm. Would you give up 5.41mm width for the extra 6.59mm height? A landscape photographer may not.

But why stop there? We have round lenses. Why not round sensors?

I would be okay with a digital Pentax 6x6. Can I get an adaptor for my Mamiya TLR lenses?

Is the prism on the prototype really that large, or is it just an illusion from the angle the photo was taken at?

Didn't Ansel Adams prefer a 6x6 format for his landscape shooting, even if that's not how they ended up printed?

Ansel Adams proffered a 8x10 format and did contact prints of many of his photographs.

He mostly used large format cameras, 4x5 and 8x10's. Mostly for the movements, plus the size of the film.

A square format dslr wouldn't interest me unless the sensor was a full 6cmx6cm...

I think the main point of a square MF is flexibility to crop. A square image is sometimes "right", but not that often. So I agree with you; a smaller square sensor is less attractive.

They'll use what ever they can get from Sony. I don't think Sony makes a square sensor.

OMG, a square sensor would be so rediculously cool. I love to crop most of my pictures to square format. It's my slightly autistic brain that just can't handle the imperfect ratios of the hodge podges of image formats. A rectangle that's not perfectly square is like a circle that's not quite exactly round, it freaks me out. I'd pay top price for square screens as well. I wonder why they invented the strange ratios in the first place.
