Sensor Shift + FF?

Just a thought...

Olympus' E-M5ii is showing impressive results with its sensor shift technology on a relatively low-res sensor, and, if they can (potentially) achieve high-res results in-hand (vs. on a tripod) in a future firmware release that would be particularly exciting! Of course, I'd assume there would be caveats like limited shutter speeds.

Considering that Pentax already has the capability to simulate an anti-aliasing filter via micro-vibrations, I'd be incredibly excited if they utilized a lower-resolution full-frame sensor (say 12mp in the A7s) with the option to sensor-shift to achieve near 50MP photos. We'd get the best of many worlds:

- Light Sensitivity of the A7s
- High-resolution / detail when we need it
- AA filter when we need it

See our interview on the homepage as well as the long discussion in the news and rumors forum for more info on this.

Pentax has experimented with this feature, but it sounds like SR won't be used to increase the FF's effective pixels. I honestly am not surprised since the sensor is already quite big as is, unlike MFT.

The rumors posted on Photo Rumors says that the new FF Pentax will have pixel shift technology. This apparently is based on a twitted by the Japanese photographer Kimio Tanaka (via digicame-info).
