Now that FF is here and what do we do with the cropped DA lenses?

Now that FF is here and what do we do with the cropped DA lenses?

Although they are really nice piece's of glass. What do we do with our DA lenses being cropped with full frame and the new 57.9 full frame image sensor's that Ricoh/ Pentax are going to use on their FF body?

My understanding from the beta unit's they have sent me to test is in quite a quandary. The DA's will be fully functional but will crop the FF image captured. The aperture with all M, A, F and Fa series will be crippled . what is the end result. Although all K-mounts that are FF will perfectly capture with the Beta's. my hopes are Ricoh/ pentax will not completely mess Up.

For decades I have kept my prime lenses for the exact purpose of Full Frame Digital even though I did not really know I was doing so. I was just doing it on instinct.

What are your thoughts,

And let Ricoh Know them!

well, I have a k3 that I will not be upgrading, so I can send you my address for your unwanted aps-c lenses, along with any that Ricoh wants to get rid of.

I do feel like it would be cool to keep your favorite lenses and use them just like a crop sensor body with the option to go full frame with a lens change, assuming the crop mode is engaged automatically with a crop sensor only lens attached

Use them on APS-C cameras or on the FF in crop mode.

Glad you have good instincts. I just kept mine because they were good lenses and made nice pictures.

Use them on your APS-C body, of course. You will be keeping your APS-C body won't you? It will still do all those things it has always done, right? I own cameras in several formats and don't feel that any is intrinsically BETTER to the exclusion of the others.

Quite obviously they will be useless on that new FF. A true disappointment in all respects.
Imagine!, a tiny postage stamp of a so called 'image' marring the potential of all that full frame
sensor real-estate. Do yourself a favor, get rid of that DA glass NOW! Just walk out into the
street and smash 'em. If that seems too drastic, you may send them to me and I'll keep them
out of your way and bother. And even though they're now utterly worthless, I'll still kindly
send you a selection of third-party flashes, cable releases and other potentially useful Full Frame
accessories to reimburse you for the shipping, (I'm not reimbursing for the useless DA lenses,
mind you).

Remember, DA glass = useless. Get rid of it now before it completely ruins your FF experience.

A look back at your post history suggests you're not actually a troll, Pento, just out of touch with the forum for some time, and have returned excited by the news.

Most of your DA primes will be fine. Some, and your zooms, will probably be optionally cropped by the camera, losing pixels but also the vignetting in the process. :-)

I am challenging the truth on both of these statements.
What beta units do you have?
And how on earth would Ricoh make a K-mount camera without being able to use the electrical contacts on existing Pentax lenses?
This would make the FA Ltd lenses obsolete on a camera that is designed for them...

Some of the bigger ones could be used to make great bookends or doorstops.

Please share just few shots of your beta unit with us poor guys here on the forum which haven't received even one single beta unit (not even the blob) for testing

Use them and when someone asks about the vignetting just say it's the latest "art" fad. Who knows, you might start a trend.
