I would do it just for the better optical viewfinder, and to have a higher-end camera.

This is why I shoot a LOT of medium format and have taken a real shine to large format. Even at f4.5, a 6X9 portrait has amazing image qualities.

I'd be willing to pay up to about $2500, but I wouldn't be too upset if it was lower. Otherwise I might wait it out a little.

Now that the cat is out of the bag, will we have 80+ Pentax FF DSLR users by the end of the year?

Its a very poor sampling of the market. The people who are willing to spend a lot of money on a FF body left the Pentax brand years ago. All you have left are the "APS-C is good enough", and people looking for the "value brand". Both of who are reflected in the numbers above.

I wouldn't even call it 'sampling' - even of this forum. But we do have over 80+ people willing to pay in this poll; and I'm just curious how many of them would really do it.

I think you are mistaken about the "all you have left" part; sure, some people left due to the lack of a FF camera (and now are using Canon FF, Nikon FF, Sony FF or m4/3 ) - but the user base is not like a static, fixed amount which can only decrease, and would eventually become depleted. There are newcomers, people change (e.g. their income, how they do photography), the market changes (e.g. FF cameras at prices we couldn't dream of before 2012).
It's far from a hopeless situation, it's actually the opposite.

Only one thing is certain, people will be buying into a much more expensive platform with no noticeable improvement in photos. The speculations on the nonexistent 36Mp(?) FF has already been realised in the K5IIs.

I am not convince that my event photos will be better using FF (that I can not do with the k-3 or higher APS-C models)... so, it boils down to "want' instead of "need" for me, hence I am not jumping into FF immediately even if it has boat loads of features comparable or better to D810 and priced lower than D810. In fact I am more interested in the k-3 sequel.... I digress....

OTOH, I am happy for those who will want FF from Pentax...

Such a shame, I thought that iso 50 setting would have come really handy....oh well....

I'm willing to spend "a lot" on an FF body and I haven't left the Pentax brand! I "joined" the Pentax brand in 1967. Then I shot 36mm x 24mm until 2004. Soon I will start again.

We are not talking about whether anyone will buy the FF camera. Of course some people will! We are just talking about the numbers.

Whatever my current equipment can do, sometimes I want to push my photography a bit further. Or often I want to achieve similar results easier. Both of those are likely to apply here.

But there is another answer I sometimes give to people who ask me why I'm doing something that they can't understand: "because I can"! And in this case I will.

$2500. Not that it's a figure I can afford, but anything lower than that probably insures build or specs will not be up to par.

Yeah, 2500 tops. Any higher than that I reckon wouldn't be worth the upgrade from my K5. Hmm...

The main fault with this poll on this Forum is it excludes those who don't use English as a first or (much smaller sample) second language. That sample resides mostly in the part of the world represeting less than half or Ricoh's sales, and where the infrastructure in teh 'consumer' market (USA) was destroyed over the past 20 years.

A far more indicative poll would ask Japanese Pentax Users hw ,any Yen they would pay for a FF Pentax.
