Originally posted by asp1880 Those folks wishing for exotic superteles and f/1.4 wideangles - I don't know about that. It seems to me they're asking Ricoh to out-Canikon Canon and Nikon. That is, try to beat them at their own game. I just fear that if Ricoh pursued that strategy, the Pentax forte of compactness and character would be lost or weakened in the process. We'd end up with a copy of the Nikon lens catalog instead of a really different alternative.
If people really want a 24/1.4 and a 200/2 and whatnot, and are prepared to lug it and pay for it (I mean really purchase and use the stuff, not just wish for it to "show 'em canikon guys", as drypenn wrote), I just feel they should have bought into a different system a while ago already. Wishing for lenses is not about bragging rights. Not to me at least. So Ricoh, please keep the Pentax lens catalog quirky, compact and different.

Exotic lenses are not "unPentax", but it has become unPentaxy only in the last years. They had an excellent ultrafast 50. I know several Canon pro's that have it in their arsenal because it performs so much better then the Canon. And how many manufacturers sport 200mm macro lenses?
It is a shame Pentax is now known as the compromise-brand.

They announced a DSLR not unlike the other brands:
Me-too DSLR <> compact or different
