Though we went metric in the UK some years ago, we still keep miles and pints (of beer). Also, butter is sold in packs of 454 grams, which equates to the old pound, though I've just noticed that I have a 250 gram pack in my fridge! Some things are hard to let go.

In Holland the yard stick is 1 meter but it is still called duimstok (translated thumb stick) where a thumb is an inch (width of a thumb). even though the metric system was introduced in 1820.

Here's why I like Fahrenheit better. at 100 degrees it is hot, where with Celsius 100 degrees outside means you're dead. at 0 degrees Celsius, yeah, it's cold, but not too bad, where with 0 Fahrenheit you definitely know it is cold.

I like Kelvin. At 0 degrees you are dead. At a 100 degrees you are still dead. at 200 degrees, dead pretty soon, at 300 degree it's nice though.

Celsius makes more sense.

0 degrees is when water freezes.

This is why I like the Kelvin scale, at 100 kelvin we are all dead, at 0 kelvin everything else is dead.

Considering that the human body is made up of a considerable amount of water, this is the reason Celsius is worth paying attention to.

And at 273 Kelvin water freezes - correct?

Probably the main reason that US will never go metric is that gridiron would have to become 30cmball.

The triple point of water in the kelvin scale is exactly 273.16 K - where all three states of water: ice, vapour and liquid can exist simultaneously.

Never heard of triple point before.
But I came within 0.15 degrees of 0 Celsius.

Or, more accurately, 305mmball, but it could be abbreviated to "305" and three-character names are easy to remember...

Anyway, only dressmakers use centimetres.

Who started this ? Sheldon ... ?

And what's the current situation with the "grid" ?

Six feet tall and weighing twelve stones - even after a couple of decades of metrication I still can't convert them when asked by doctors etc,
