I was 10 at the time and had no interest in photography whatsoever, but had someone shown me a picture of that, I would've probably said "Now that is one ugly piece of a camera!" In German though, as I had no knowledge of English at the time.

But my father had a Nikon Coolpix 995 at the time - now that was a cool looking camera

Aren't there some pictures floating around of a FF prototype that was based on the K-7?

If there were, were they just user photoshopped?

Yes, and very nicely photoshopped.

That original K-1 is one ugly thing of a camera.
I have a different opinion. I think the original prototype is beautiful. It's quite sleek and futuristic looking for it's day! I would have bought one then. Think about how much Pentax FF would have evolved over the years had it gotten off the ground. I'm glad people remember this significant moment in Pentax history.

The new K1 looks quite good, but it's got to make it to the store shelves before I will believe it really exists.

The other one you are thinking of was just as photoshoped... there were only 2 official prototypes (including the present one).

That was actually the FF that was about come out, but then the aliens abducted the plans and the prototype. Humankind could not handle that camera since the volume was turned all the way to 11.

Surprised you have a picture of it... those are extremely, rare. Should sell prints of it on eBay. You will be an instant billionaire - btw, I only request a merely 10% of your earnings since I give you the idea !

Once a month or so the MZ-S and FA43 get some exercise and it is a sublime experience. I've always thought that a beautiful camera.
