Will Pentax K-1 good for sports/wildlife? or Just a studio camera?

I really hope K-1 can at least do 6 fps. 8 fps will be awesome at 36MP.

Also, I really hope this K-1 will make Nikon/Canon/Sony users to switch to Pentax! Pentax makes good cameras!

I doubt it will get switchers. Maybe a few defectors who couldnt wait around for Pentax fullframe.

Also, new buyers who don't follow the crowd (and salesperson).

If I was a Canon user it might be tempting because of better Sony sensors. Not much reason I can see for a Nikon user who are already using Sony sensors.

Time will tell, probably I will get the K-1 pretty soon after its launch. Out in the wilderness I usually shoot with two bodies. The FF will be encompanied by my current K-3, providing a solid reference point.
For me frame rate is not that critical, anything above 5 fps is just fine.
Taking market share from Canikon is going to take time. To get started you need to have a good product and market awareness. I am not too worried about the first one, Pentax has proven it's capabilities in the past. I just hope they get their marketing right this time!

It may take a few years but you may see some switchers. Ricoh/Pentax would have to build-up the line of long lenses first. And continue to work on known weak areas such as auto-focus.

WR is definitely a plus.

You do realise, don't you, that it's not just the physical sensor? That it's the signal-processing algorithms in the firmware which really make the picture? (Yes, even the RAW picture.)

The two main strengths of this camera are going to be user interface and image processing.

We already have a 150-450 and an imminent 70-200, so I'm assuming you're looking to the development of > 200mm D-FA* or D-FA Limited primes?

Although fps is nice to have, they have to improve AF accuracy (1st) and speed.
I sure hope Pentax doesn't join the MP race.

About buying it, I'll have to see what's the difference between shooting in FF vs APS, both in FA (150-450) and crop lenses.
People keep talking about greater fov, but how does that translate into resolved quality if I have a subject taking less than half the frame in APS at 450mm? What would I get in the FF?!

No, I'm talking super telephoto primes 400mm and above. The longest Pentax currently offers is 600mm. You have to find used A series or early for anything longer. And those are all manual focus with WR. The Pentax DFA 400mm and above offerings is rather slim.

All other things equal, I think you'd need a pretty big combination of Nikon sucking at the signal-processing and Pentax's genius in this department to make a big enough difference to bait people over. For someone starting from scratch it might be a deciding factor, but I'm going to doubt it could be enough on its own to tempt someone to jump ship.

I know Pentax has done pretty well with the same (or similar) available sensors in the past, and it can certainly add to the appeal but I don't think they've ever done mind-blowingly better (or worse) than Nikon for it to be major factor in the decision making.

12 fps at 42 mp ...
That would be nice.

It should be 42 mp so it is the answer to life, the universe and everything...
