Guess? $2500 or so with a plus or minus of $500 more or less.
No, it's not much help.
Price will probably fall $300 to $500 by Christmas a year from now. Just going from history.
All pure speculation.

Will be priced according to competition: like D810 and 5DS, then will drop to the price of a 5DIII or D750.

Or slightly more at release with the price gradually falling over the first 6 months. Initial demand will be high, possibly even very high, so no real incentive for a price break until the production line catches up. Ricoh supposedly was surprised at the 645z initial sales and it took them a while to catch up.

The FF will be a unique offering, even more so than the 645z, with a long term pent up demand. Sales forecasts will be even more unreliable than the 645z forecasts. At least they had the 645d sales to look at. The FF is totally unique with no way to accurately forecast sales. So no reason not to start high and then drop to maximize profit by balancing sales volume / price.

I suspect a release list price of $3,000 maybe even $3,295. But it should be down to $2,500 or so by midsummer. If they release on time of course.

If they expect to get $3k for it, it needs to have a vastly improved AF system. To get d810 prices, it needs to rival its AF speed & accuracy. And that's been where Pentax has been lagging for a long time.

Yep, Pentax is looked at as the value brand.... Given the same price, I venture most would go Nikon or Cannon.

Yes, there is pent up demand amongst people who invested in Pentax, but once that dries up..... You have to look at stealing market share away from Nikon and Cannon in an overall declining market.

I would say if they priced it $2k, they would sell out like hot cakes, and at the very least, attract A lot of new Pentax fans.

Not really. AF in k-3 is as good as anything Nikon or Canon has, except for tracking. In some tests k-3 was better in accuracy. Tracking seems to be what the pundits complain about and perhaps they are correct. I've no idea, I don't have a use for it. I suppose it is nice for those that need it but it is not the only aspect of auto focus.

With the k-5 I regular took 2 or 3 shots to make sure I had a good one. With the k-3 that is simply a waste of time, the k-3 does not miss.

Why? That only makes sense if you are trying to play the same game as Canon or Nikon, huge volume with low margin. That works great in a growing market. In a shrinking market, low volume with higher margins works better. And you do not have to maintain a huge manufacturing capacity like Nikon / Canon have.

It's good to hear that the K-3 doesn't miss. I don't have it. I'll admit that my K-5ii is smarter than I am most of the time with AF. However, I don't shoot sports or birds in flight, etc.

I do know that reading a lot of reviews, many people are very impressed with the d810's significant AF improvements.

I just don't believe for a minute that Ricoh can retail it at $3300 without getting the word out early amongst the camera reviews & news sites that this isn't the same laggish AF. There's that mark to overcome. So it has to be very impressive to overcome that.

I vote for $1,999. They have done MF digital at a price point that was ahead of its time. Why not with FF?

Because the margins on existing MF products were so high it made possible undercutting while still making a profit.

I vote for EUR 2000 (here in France) as well. Too high and I won't be able to afford it for quite sometime, even if I sell most of my existing gear
