I believe it will be list priced around $2,500 - near the $2,300 introductory list price of D750, not the current price of the year-old, overstocked camera. D810 is still $2,999 street. A7II is not a competitor.
Im guessing also around the $2500.. maaaaaybe.. $2300.. but dont think so.. that range of prices is not too low.. but not too high.. For the end of the year it might drop to $2000 +/- but wait for another year is not in my plans :/

Nothing suggest this camera is going to be cheap. eg the swivel screen seems both complex and expensive. The D810 is obviously the benchmark and I would not expect the camera to be cheaper. It all depends on the sensor, but I would not expect anything cheaper or worse than what Nikon is using.

I dont expect something cheap either.. but because of the Pentax history i could expect a camera with great features with a good market price.. we can see that in every single Pentax camera. History could change.. but so far ( even with the latest K3ii ) it is not. Also if we look the case of the latest lenses, less than a year after the Lens 150-450mm was released, the price droped from almost $2500 to $1700 in some stores, a much more resonable "Pentax price" IMO.

The Pentax LX costed the same as the Nikon F3 upon release. Later on it costed the same as a Leica.

My benchmark is the Sony A7 II. If it's not priced the same or lower then why buy it? You can put all your M42 & K lenses on the A7 and use them FF. Why buy a K1 for more? The ONLY reason I need (want) a FF digital is to use my wide angle prime lenses as wide angle primes. That requires a FF sensor. The current price for an A7 II body is $1700

Sony a7II Alpha Mirrorless Digital Camera (Alpha a7II Body) ILCE7M2/B

The Canon 6D is $1400. The Nikon D610 is $1500. How the heck is Pentax going to sell a FF for $3K?

They will price it to sell all they can make the first 18 months, mid $2000's prob. Then price will gradually decline.

And the initial price will be higher than many think but still good value considering what the camera will be.

???

You lose the auto flash, focus and aperture systems!

I like manual, but not everyone wants to spend $3000 to go back to the Stone Age. 😀

those are 20mp-24mp cameras, the new pentax ff will probably be at least 36mp.

there is a significant performance improvement with the 36-50mp sensors, over those weaker sensors, and all camera manufacturers price accordingly.

Yeah, Ricoh may as well close up shop right now.

Definitely not 24Mpix, and definitely not Sony's entry level discounted price...

Hummm i wonder if that price will be lower in the US... most Pentax stuffs are cheaper in the US than in Europe... so perhaps we are talking about $2400 maybe ??

The A7 II is not $3000 - it's $1700. The Canon FF 6D is $1400. It's the Pentax FF that will be more expensive.

Look guys, I've used Pentax since 1978. I have 6 Pentax film bodies & 7 lenses. I want Pentax to succeed. But price matters and they need to sell not only to their loyal base but to convert others to join the Pentax camp.

36mp isn't going to make people jump. Price will. Buyers will pay a premium for Nikon/Canon but not for Pentax. Look at the K5 & K3 pricing compared to other APS-C systems. Pentax is not the price leader. They are one of the lower end systems. They are way late into the FF game. If they are priced above $2K for the Pentax FF body they will have disappointing sales.

No, they will continue with their APS-C cameras and the FF camera. But they are going to have a hard time making sales if they don't price their FF camera below $2K.

You're not going to convert others by price alone. No matter how cheap they sell, Pentax cannot beat the price of not jumping ship: it costs zero to keep your existing camera.
The next level of cheapness is to be cheaper than everything else out there. It won't work either; there will always be some second hand, twice replaced model, half broken camera on ebay. Oh, and such people won't buy new lenses either; they're cheaper second hand.

So the bright strategy of trying to sell to people without money can't possibly work. Is there an alternative? Yes: sell to people with money. But then, you have to make a compelling product.
