Portrait APS-C crop on FF?

I wonder if it would be possible to implement a APS-C crop in portrait mode on a FF sensor in landscape mode.

Sort of like this:

Sort of like this:
Disable cropping completely, then crop in post (i.e. manually, or via a photoshop action, etc.)

Well, yes... but not quite like that, it would be an exact fit. FF is 36x24, aps-c is 24x16.

However, why would you do that? You could simply crop it in post, if you really needed too... or you can rotate the FF camera and achieve a photo of full sensor resolution

You're right, now why was I thinking 22x16?

Good points, not that I'll ever have a FF camera.
If I had one, I'd probably never shoot in crop mode (DA lenses, etc...) and crop in post.

A square 24x24might be interesting.

Many hoods would have to be replaced...

I think existing hoods would be okay for APSC crops on full frame cameras since 24 X 16 and 24 X 24 fit within 36 X 24 FF in any orientation.

A 24x24 crop may need a round or square hood otherwise the petal or rectangle shape could vignette severely on the top and bottom. A normal apsc image would be fine.

Moot point now that the crop modes have been revealed as std FF, and apsc along with auto.
