No mirrorless full frame digital from Pentax, but you can start a few hundred threads on the topic. Who knows what the future may bring?

I believe it's about getting someone to buy a new set of lenses or something...

I really hope that there will never be a mirror less FF from Pentax (at least one that supports k-mount). It's the wrong mount for mirrorless.
Curious as to why is K-Mount unsuitable for Mirrorless? Personally I have no interest in a mirrorless camera. I dislike using the rear screen for composing photos for various reasons. The EVF cameras I have looked at in the past, leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. If I had to, I could live with a rangefinder type camera. If I would need to get a new set of lenses this would be the ultimate deal breaker.

REGISTRATION DISTANCE

Distance between sensor and lens mount - 45.46mm
That would make a BIG mirrorless, as seen in the K-01...

Thank you for your quick reply. I am still somewhat confused.

Does the very existence of the K-01 not prove that K-Mount works with, and is thus suitable, for a mirrorless camera?

From PF "The Pentax K-01 is a pioneer; it is the first mirrorless camera to be designed for use with an already-existing lineup of DSLR and SLR lenses. Is not the registration distance the same for a given lens regardless of the sensor size allowing existing lenses to work with the Pentax FF? Is the OP proposing an entirely new design super compact FF camera or am I missing something?

Though it is considered a very good camera by those who have it, K-01 was highly controversial when it was released. It lacked an EVF, used mid-range controls and file specs (12-bit Raw), has a love or hate design and questionable ergonomics.

It was universally criticized for not emulating the thin 'beer can on a plate' style of other MILC's, but that's a function of designing an SLR with the mirror removed (a K-30 sans mirror and prism) rather than designing an entirely new clean-sheet camera, as Sony has.

IMO, a thin camera with a very long snout to acomodate the 45.46mm register distance (the equivalent of the K-mount adapter on a new mount) would work just fine, preserving as it would all the necessary contacts. It would look pretty weird, of course.

But if they're going to spend all that money designing a complete new camera and manufacturing process why not just make - say - a 24x36 sensor camera or something?

That sure puts things into perspective.

I'd say the purpose of mirrorless in theory is the possibility of a smaller / lighter body when losing the mirror / prism. The much quieter shutter (I think). Newer EVF's can let you see in the dark whereas a OVF typically can't. You can also see your complete exposure in the EVF or anything else really since it is an LCD.

Sure the K mount makes it a little bulkier around the mount, but really the K-01 is not that much different in size overall than, say the Sony A7RII. In fact it is slightly smaller in each maximum dimension (but lacks the EVF).
