Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports

Any one know if the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports will become available in K-mount? If the K-1 is quick enough this would be my ideal zoom (if Sigma can sort out the reliability issues).

Got the Three Amigo's, a couple of 50 f/1.2's, the 100 WR Macro and the Samyang 14/2.8, so a K-1 plus the Sigma 120-300/2.8 be ideal.

Your name is HopelessTogger, but getting the 120-300mm for k-mount is very close to Hopeless Togger.

That's a real shame to be honest.

I believe Sigma offer a mount conversion service. I wonder if it's possible?

The mount conversion is of course only between mounts alteady available for the lens.

Sigma Imaging UK | Mount Conversion Service

Yup . . .

"It is important to clarify that the list of available lens mount conversions corresponds to the list of SIGMA releases. It is not possible to convert a lens to a mount which SIGMA has never released."

Unless the Pentax FF system becomes really popular, I doubt Sigma will change its stance on the Pentax K-mount. Plus, there would have to be demand for sports-oriented lenses.

The way I see it now is that mirrorless is for non-sports (I have an A7r + Zeiss 35/1.4, 55/1.8, 70-200/4, very slow clunky system, makes me miserable) whereas high end DSLR needs to be suitable for sports, well, preferably. Thus a big desire for a fast DSLR compatible with this Siggy Sports which has an ideal zoom range and speed.

Can you beg Sigma to slap a K-mount on this lens, please?!

They'd certainly respond to an increase in sales of the other K-mount Sigma lenses, so that's all the community would have to do.

I think Sigma sees Canikon as their bread and butter, and Ricoh as their competion for niche camera sales...

I agree, but few of the current Canon/Nikon/Sony 36MP - 42MP FF's out there are optimised for sports. None do more than 4 or 5 fps, for example.

So if Pentax make their FF a D810 class camera, while it may have great auto-focus and other sports-friendly features, it likely won't be optimal for sports either.

Sigma are a risk averse family business. They don't even do mirrorless lenses except for three small f2.8 primes.

Seems there was an interview with the Sigma CEO a while back where he stated that they didn't like the Pentax AF system as an excuse not to make lenses in the K mount.

No, he was talking about the mechanical aperture ... crap really because the Nikon system is similar.

Money rules all. I have no complaint, it's their prerogative in a shrinking market.

Nikon has electronic aperture control now. Since 2008 actually...

Sorry for the KR link...

Sigma is just one of the companies hoping Pentax goes belly up. Pentax has obviously chosen to pay the big bucks to keep Tamron on board. They probably can't afford to try and keep two third parties interested, and in using the Tamron 24-70, they are pretty much shutting Sigma out, and guaranteeing that Tamron, not Sigma continues to make money from Pentax's existence.
