I must have a bad copy then (on FF) - corners are bad at infinity and never really sharpen up. But it is kind of expected that for DA lenses there will be significant copy variation in the performance.

But no problem at all when I use it at closer distances wide open or stopped a little. So in a way it performs exactly the opposite of what is recomended in the compatibility list (great wide open, but sucks stopped down).

I'm looking forward to see some infinity shots posted at f8 to decide whether I should be getting a new copy or it is just the way it is.

Below is a quick snapshot at f1.4 on A7R

Is anybody here could test the 55mm on a Pentax film camera to see if it works ? It would be easy to see until we get hands on the K-1 ^^

I have already posted that the 55 is good on K-1. I tested that yesterday.

Thanks, Kenspo! The question has been asked and answered many times (using film and A7 series cameras). Hopefully the questioners will accept your first hand, professional evaluation and wait to try it themselves when the K-1 is released. You continue to be an invaluable contributor to our discussions.

Pleasure is mine Im not allowed to post pics yet, but tested 31 and 77 LTD, 100 macro, 200 and 300 yesterday + the 55..All works 100% here. I tested the 55 with the hood on and off. Since some mentioned the hood could make som strange stuff..But nothing here. Will post pics when i get the green light.

Here is the photo I just took a few min ago. It is a little hard to find a flat scene at my backyard to ensure everything is in focus, so I focused to the chimney of my neighbor's house (~300-400 ft away) in the extreme up-right corner of the frame. so please ignore the out-of-focus foreground.
The first is the original photo, I shot RAW and only converted it into JPEG and resized it in LR, without any processing;
the second is the ~100% crop from the corner. vignetting and CA are visible, and of course not super sharp, but I think it is good enough for F1.4. super fast lenses of F 1.4 or 1.2 are not designed for wide open and focusing to infinity anyway. And as npc said, it performs much better if focused closer, much more so if stopped down a little.

For compare, here is a similar photo taken with SMC K 50/1.2, stopped down a little to maybe 1.4 (there is not stop between 1.2 and 2 on this lens). The chimney was not put at the same extreme corner as DA55's.

I will say DA 55 is not much worse than K 50/1.2 in the corners, both at F1.4 on FF sensor of A7.

Also the color is a little different. K lens is warmer.

Definitely. I was a bit surprised that was even a request. For infinity you want roughly f4 or more, with best results usually around f8. f8 gives a nice deep DoF, good corrections, low vignetting, and no sharpness loss due to diffraction yet. Even for astrophotography ultra fast lenses usually get stopped down a little, despite the fact that people usually use wide angle (big DoF by default) lenses with low coma for that.

I am planning to replace my FA 50 1.4 with the DA 55 1.4
To be honest I really like the hood that comes with it - does it really have issues with attached hood?!?
Somehow I see different opinions regarding its FF compatibility on K-1.
Is it worth to upgrade or will I be disappointed or have to crop my shots manually after the shooting!?
Thanks in advanced!

My 55* feels at home on the K1. Focus isn't lightning fast, but is more accurate than my k3

I use it with a hood outdoors, no noticeable vignetting

Da*55 on the K-1 at f1.4.

This one is at f1.8.

This one is at f6.3. I really enjoy the DA*55 on the K-1. The original hood will vingette. I bought a petal hood to use on it. You can also buy a hood for the DA55-300 and cut it down.
