Is K-1 influencing Nikon pricing?

Just saw that Nikon is selling the 24-120mm VR f/4 lens

with the D750 for $2,300

with the D810 for $3,300

These prices seem to be lower than before.

Could the Pentax K-1 be influencing Nikon's pricing?

I would think there is some influence to some degree... may be good for the Nikon users who wish to upgrade. But I honestly don't care as even Ricoh is saying that this k-1 is aimed primarily for existing Pentax users...

I would also think that the initial demand of the k-1 is quite high that we will not see price drop any time soon like other previous models.

Who knows. It is possible. All the DSLR manufacturers are under fire and not because of Pentax. The camera industry is all over the place. Sony is gunning for the big guys (Nikon and Canon). They (CaNikon) are under pressure to keep their market share. So I guess they will lower prices to keep their user base from defecting to Sony. Now if there are nostalgic exPentax users who want to come back, then Pentax has given them every reason to do so with a monster FF camera in the new K1 (K3 is no slouch either) with a price that nobody can match.

Let's hope the Nikon move makes Pentax deliver a K1 and the 24-70 for $2,500. If that happens I will sell my car to get one!!

Its hard to know at this moment, maybe the want to clear stock for the D760 and the D820, the price and specs of those cameras maybe can be influenced if the K1 is a sales succes.

Looked at this just this week. The combo K-1 with the three zoom 15-200mm is overhere 499 euro more expensive then thè D750 with two tamron and one Nikon 15-200mm combo.

Nope; those were the US launch prices.

There's still a Nikon instant rebate reducing them both to $1999 and $2799, respectively. I doubt these will go any lower as Nikon doesn't tend to reduce their FF bodies by very much while they're current.

The K-1 is therefore priced very competitively as I'd place it very close to the D810 in terms of capabilities.

I wouldn't be surprised if Canikon would start some campaigns to undermine Pentax. This is a pivotal moment, with the release of FF. If it fails, its a big problem for Pentax. Lower pricing and new rebates is the easiest way to do this

Do not think so. I saw the same price well before K1 launch.

They are haemorrhaging enough as it is already trying to contain Sony. K-1 is a Pentax D810 and then some, with instant thousand dollar body only discount and an inexpensive but more than adequate kit lens costing half that (other half can go to a 50mm prime or a good flash); trying to undercut that could be the straw that broke the camel's back. Even Nikon's pockets are not bottomless, and Pentax must have calculated their break-even on selling only to loyal Pentaxians; everything else is a bonus.

Actually both Nikon and Canon FF influences the Pentax K-1 price more than the other way around. But undoubtedly all competitors will make last minute model and price offers to make any K-1 buyer think twice. Ultimately 95% of buyers who want the K-1 will get the K-1, and Nikon and Canon users will temporarily benefit in the price wars.

Nikon already announced 2 new models, the D500 and D5. They aren't replacements for the D750 or D810 but marketing folks may have decided to put the older models on sale to reduce excess inventory.

I wouldn't expect Nikon or Canon to reduce prices because of an upcoming Pentax camera, no matter how good. I don't expect enough K-1's to be manufactured to have any noticeable effect on what the big 2 sell. Canon, especially, is more impacted by the general economy than by what competitors do.

I wonder how many Canon and Nikon users will switch, and how many who left Pentax will come back.

I think they're going to sell more than they can make. I just hope there isn't still a backlog in August when I have the money.

The K-1 has a superior feature set, build strength, and style. I feel the way it is being introduced is professional and friendly. I think the present Pentax user base and new prospective users have a very worthy product available to them in the K-1, and that is what really matters.
