How is the date set on the K1? By manual entry in the setting? By GPS receptions? Could it be that it is just a simple mistake by the user?
User chooses one of several preset date formats.

Still interesting. Since there are enough resons to conclude for december, but the snow still tells me something different.

The mount is less then 1500 meters if i'm correct. That is low for having snow on top in summer.

The Wheater says 15 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 8 at december 6th.
Het weer per maand in Christchurch - De voorspelling van AccuWeather voor Canterbury Nieuw-Zeeland (NL)

In June it was 18 and a minimum of -1. That gives a better chance for snow on the summit.

I read the exif in Lightroom as I would read them in my German background. It is possible being on the Southern Hemisphere December is warmer and beginning spring is the start of colder days ahead (judging on experience as a friend of mine visited chile for half a year).

Bottom line, the kit lens is a great price of glass :-)

Ok, I now realize that the K-1 has "several preset date formats". However, I would still contend that the date was December, not June. The EXIF data embedded in RAW/TIFF/JPEG files has to universally readable, and therefore has strict formatting guidelines. I did a little more research, and found the official CIPA rules for EXIF here: http://www.cipa.jp/std/documents/e/DC-008-2012_E.pdf

On page 48, you can see "Tags Relating to Date and Time" which says:

I'm guessing that the date that you can set on your DSLR is just a customization for the camera's display, not for how it writes the date into the EXIF data. Otherwise, how would photo software know whether you're using the American way of reading dates, or the European?

The key bit of info is the Firmware version. Franc's post says it is FW1.00. FW 1.00 is the first production version. Which was not available in June. Occam's Razor, people. It wasn't shot in June, 2015.

I was not asking about the format. I was asking about the data. Does the user enter it? Is it grabbed from the GPS? Does the user decide between the two?

Thanks!

DK for K-1. For K-3 (and all my other Pentax cameras) actual data is user-entry. GPS might introduce a change, but I'm assuming GPS default is off and data entry is still user.

So the date we are looking at in the EXIF could be total fiction.

Could be, but not likely. What motive would someone have for setting their camera to a date other than the correct one? Since just about anything digital can be modified, it could just as likely have been changed after the picture was taken!

Wrong information is not necessarily intentional. More than likely it is accidental.

I can't imagine anyone trying to fool some one about the date, unless it is some silly joke that I do not understand.
