I passed on it many times.
Like I said, most of the major brands 85/1.4 are good lenses unless one only wants to look at technical lens numbers and not the final output.
The Zeiss is as good as well of course.
However, for the same money, I got AF, on FA*85/1.4, so that was my first choice.
In that sense, the new Sigma would take the spot over the Zeiss too.
Add to that, I actually like the smaller 85mm more.
Far more portable w/o losing much in the bokeh between head-waist type shots.
I tend to find that though f1.4 type 85mm grab the headlines, they are big and often becomes a purpose lens rather than a generalist lens.
So I'd only take the 85/1.4 out for portrait sessions rather than as a go to lens on a tour or family day out.
Then, there is the 77ltd, which is the size of most brands 50/1.4 (often smaller in fact), making it highly portable, with AF.
Equally effective, but with the strong Pentax drawing style, sharpness and contrast.
