Rob, the Sigma looks a great bet.

Interesting. I was wondering what to use as an equivalent (or better) to the DA* 55.
Use the DA*55. It works fine on ff.

Beside that, are there any alternative 85mm f1.4 lens for K-1 with high optical quality?
There is a Zeiss 85/1.4 T*Planar ZK (K mount) for sale in the Marketplace!

I used Canon 5d mark2 with zeiss 85mm 1.4 for studio shooting and it was fantastic even the body was quite old. I guess the zeiss lens itself is stunning. I love the color of zeiss lens so much. Well as you know, Zeiss does not make lenses for Pentax anymore long time ago which is quite disappointing. Otus and Milvus are what I wish to use it on Pentax. Beside that, are there any alternative 85mm f1.4 lens for K-1 with high optical quality? Im not sure about FA* 85mm f1.4 since I never used it before. I know that Pentax will gonna make 85mm 1.4 prime lens in future for FF camera but the zeiss lens seem to have a nice color tone personally. But I need to know about other 85mm lens' optical quality first. If I gonna use 85mm for studio, will Pentax 645 prime lens provide better quality compare to FF lens?

The Sigma is an excellent lens.

I'm kind of surprised the OP didn't even deign to mention the Sigma 85mm, given that it is currently the only 85mm autofocus lens in production for K-mount. I've never used it on FF, but I've been blown away by it on my APS-C camera. It's razor sharp with great contrast and rendition.

I've heard very good things about it from FF shooters, and that some have even chosen it over the Canon/Nikon alternatives for various reasons.

Camera Lens Database - DxOMark

DxO scores it just below the Nikon 85mm and above the 85L. On the FF Canon 5Dsr it scored a 43. The Canon 85L only scored a 38. It is an excellent lens on a FF body. Mine is also the most accurate AF lens that I own. A lot of people consider it Sigma's first ART lens. On the Canon 5Dsr is comes in at #22 overall.

I hope that DxO will quickly test the K-1 with the 31, 43, & 77mm. We can see how it compares to the Nikon glass on the D810.

I've kind of thought the same thing myself, and I kind of figured that the 85mm simply happened to pre-date the ART marketing scheme. That's why I've been a little confused when I've seen people suggest that Sigma release an ART version.

I guess if there was an official ART version, then it could be used with the Sigma dock, which could be a plus. But given Sigma's recent moves, who knows if the 85mm ART would even be released in K-mount.

The Zeiss 85/1.4 in Kmount is often available on ebay.
The older Zeiss in Contax mount is always available and just needs a Leitax replacement mount.

The FA*85/1.4 is as good as any other major brand 85/1.4.

In fact, there really are very few bad 85mm :

K85

M85

Tak 85/1.9

85mm 1.4 lens for K-1
Can I just put a vote in for my “Sweetheart” (SMC Pentax-A* 85mm F1.4) which I consider to be a sharp and competent lens... provided you OK with manual focus that is.

The Contax 85mm is an excellent lens. The Pentax A* 85mm F/1.4 is just as good and you get the benefit of auto aperture. I love both of those lenses. IF Manual focus is not a problem then I would grab the A* version first and Contax version second.

I passed on it many times.
Like I said, most of the major brands 85/1.4 are good lenses unless one only wants to look at technical lens numbers and not the final output.
The Zeiss is as good as well of course.

However, for the same money, I got AF, on FA*85/1.4, so that was my first choice.
In that sense, the new Sigma would take the spot over the Zeiss too.

Add to that, I actually like the smaller 85mm more.
Far more portable w/o losing much in the bokeh between head-waist type shots.
I tend to find that though f1.4 type 85mm grab the headlines, they are big and often becomes a purpose lens rather than a generalist lens.
So I'd only take the 85/1.4 out for portrait sessions rather than as a go to lens on a tour or family day out.

Then, there is the 77ltd, which is the size of most brands 50/1.4 (often smaller in fact), making it highly portable, with AF.
Equally effective, but with the strong Pentax drawing style, sharpness and contrast.

Im not sure if Pentax is planning for new DFA 85mm f1.4 but I def sure it won't be cheap. I don't care about Manual lens or not. I just care about the price and optical quality. A* 85mm 1.4 seems to be a great choice.
