Does anybody think they will find the articulating screen on the back of the K-1 useful ? I mean why would you need all of those angles ?

I can see using it to shoot portraits while looking down (like the old Hasselblads) -- especially in square-crop mode!
Other angles? Not sure yet.

The two K1 features that are of greatest interest to me are:

1. Pixel shifting that automatically adjusts for subject movement
2. The tilting rear LCD that will keep me off of my belly when shooting low angle shots (which I do allot of).

That is exactly how you would look at the prints and this feature gives you the feeling of how the prints will look like at the time of composing. This is a casual viewing angle for most people and not vertical fixed unless its an X-Ray that the doctor is looking at.

I did my best in-camera photo composing when looking down at the viewing screen of a twin-lens-reflex medium-format film camera. Now if I could only make the image on the K1 screen upside down and reversed I'd be in heaven.

As a person who regularly does low angle work in tight quarters, the answer as to "who" is me. I almost bought a K-S2 just to get the screen and the K-1 implementation is much more elegant and useful for my needs.

OTOH, if you don't see an application, the feature is obviously not for you. With any luck, Pentax will release a K-1s in the next year or so with a reduced feature set and and a fixed screen for people needing a little less camera.

I'm a macro guy - I would love it. We like to crouch on the ground and take shots looking up.

I'm with Nass. Do macro, and getting to the subject's level always makes a better image. I've been using a refconverter for decades, but the tilting screen will be far easier. I broke an eyepiece by carelessly banging the refconverter while it was mounted. It will also be useful when the camera is mounted on a vertical stand or on my converted Wild microscope when doing deep macro. Again, have been using the refconverter, but I expect LV and focus-peaking with the tilting monitor will be much easier.

Very useful. Particularly as it flips up/down, and left/right, at the same time too if you want. I can see immediate uses for all that.

The usefulness of the diagonal angles of movement I 'm not so sure about. But that feature is there and it's free, so what's not to like.

Many times when using Live View, the sun or sky casts a blinding reflection on the rear screen. Being able to tweak it in any direction helps immensely to reduce glare on the screen.

i like that the screen can flip up, too, when you hold the camera in potrait orientation. only 45°, but that should still do it for me

I use it all the time. Gets away from the usual eye-level viewpoint.

I used it today out in Vegas. The tilting and even the rotation was handy when I had to hold the camera above my head to avoid obstacles. The unique design also lets you do the same thing when shooting verticals.
