"we’ve seen a lot sharper from cameras like the Nikon D810"

Pentax K1 sample images have been released showing off the Pixel Shift Resolution - DIY Photography
Another bias opinion?

So he takes one random image of a harshly lit subject a mile away in a ton of atmospheric haze that destroys the contrast and makes conclusions from that?

I'm sure he has seen sharper images from the Nikon. I'm sure we'll see a lot sharper images from the K-1 than this too.

the comments are hilarious:

"John, your comparison of DR is based on the DxOMark results of the Pentax K-01, a 16 mp. APS-C, mirrorless camera from 2012"

so john is a moron, but pentax left itself open to criticism by shooting really long-distance landscapes with zoom lenses, at weak apertures.

the lake shot for instance, 53mm at f/4.5, with a zoom? it looks decent, but seriously?

Look here instead. Not shot through haze and even if Ricoh restricted us to publish images 2000 px wide it is quite apparent that the image quality is nothing to complain about.

John's comments about pixel shift are also off the mark. He seems to think that the K-3 II is representative for the K-1. It's not. The K-1 is much faster. So what is his agenda? It isn't objective information for sure.

Another random Internet gas-bag. Nothing to see here.

Duh. It's not a sports camera. The D810 is not ideal for those scenarios either.

There seems to be some negative statements that have no basis. For example, where the two images are shown, one w/o pixel shift and with pixel shift, I could see the difference right away (w/o having to look at the crop). Also, saying that it will be more suited for still or slow moving conditions and not sports/ action oriented images has no basis, my K-3II does that without a problem. The comment about price comparison/worth is not legible, in that it does not refer to the excellent value of the features, structure, and style of the K-1.

I wonder how long these guys will hold out insisting the K-1 isn't good enough once the full rez FW 1.0 images start coming out.

As long as they continue to get ad revenue from Canikon.

Maybe he'll cave if and when he gets to hold and use a K-1! These internet "reviewers" who form an opinion without even touching the equipment can be a bit tiring.

In my opinion, it is rather pointless to make any conclusions about pre prod. models. The only thing that tells us what really is going on between Ca-Ni-Pe-So... is when we test them side by side with a third-party lens, same model on every camera. that is how we can eliminate lens differences. Of course, If I shoot with Canon (thank god I'm not ) it is natural that I talk on behalf of Canon. It's natural in human behavior. I think we are littlebit sensitive about things that are said about Pentax., especially the new K-1.
I do not think, that K-1 is meant to be competitor to D-810, it has different strengths. And the price, it is huge advantage
Let them talk...

Is it normal to compare 2 cameras using an image from only one of them? Nowhere did I see the same image taken by another camera.
This in addition to the previous comments about the technical quality of the demonstration pics Pentax released.

It takes 2 to tango, and it takes 2 equal images taken under similar conditions to compare cameras (I know you know that, just saying).

And why would you use a FF for tiny (VGA) web pictures? 36M compressed into .3M and compared. Same as saying a 747 is a plane, no difference to the Wright brothers' flyer...
