77mm F1.8 limited on FF

I know it's FF lens but I'm quite curious about the image quality at wide open and f8. Any Full sample pics with FF camera?

Search Flickr. There are a lot of pictures of this lens on an Sony A7.

I think lots of people used the FA 77mm on film cameras and adapted to Sony FF cameras. I don't think you can find those photos easily, because they are generally not posted online with easy identification (film photo scans and digital photos with adapters often do not contain EXIF data)
But the lens is FA, made for use on 35mm film, so it is definitely FF compatible. If you want super sharp corners and low low vignetting, you might want to look at a lens like DFA 100mm macro, though. The FA 77mm is a portrait lens, so it has priorities to produce nice skin tones, great bokeh, sharp, lots of lens character, flattering photos, good contrasts. The DFA 100mm macro on the other hand is designed to have brutal sharpness, flat field of focus, no lens character, and a laboratory precision. Which is not what you usually want for portraits.

Yep. It is easy enough to find photos taken with the lens, but hard to figure out which were done on which format. That by itself should be telling

Flickr search for "Pentax FA 77 A7"

I mean the original size and file. Most of them are cropped like 1500x1500.

That may prove difficult. It is fairly foolish to expose full resolution to the Web, so examples may be hard to come by. With any luck, an A7R user may see this thread and post up center and corner full-resolution crops at both f/1.8 and f/8.

I only post full res samples of test shots, since I consider anything else to be worthless, I guess I am foolish.

I shot these here two years ago (default LR raw sharpening, lowest output sharpening for screen):

https://www.flickr.com/photos/karlknipser/15970162868/sizes/o/

In that folder there is more FF tests.

Why post in this thread when there is no Pentax FF available to us and those that have evaluation copies are clearly not allowed to post full res images?

You are the person that I'm really looking for and all of your pics of FF testing are very helpful.

Thank you!

Btw, do you have any plans to test out Pentax lenses with K-1 in future?

Why not? And a user, "beholder3", showed what I wanted.

Before they were withdrawn, there were some photos on display in the 'K-1 in Vietnam' thread taken by the K-1 and the FA 77 wide-open.

I'm sure in the weeks to come there will be plenty of full-size sample images for all the FA lenses available. Perhaps even on the K-1 web site:

At f/8 the FA77 is as good as any other lens I have seen in the 70~85mm focal length range, even when compared to top shelf glass from Canon, Nikon and Zeiss.
