Yeah, the fa*85 is my absolute favorite lens ever! I have never found a better portrait lens is all the systems that I used before! For micro43 I love the noticron, it's a perfect lens really with perfect sharpness, aberration correction and stunning IQ, but the fa* has just this immeasurable something that keeps on creating those awesome pictures! Side by side the character is unmistakable. Those engineers at Pentax knew what they were doing!

Any of these would do for my liking! I know that the 250-600 zooms are very difficult to build again, but a DFA* 600/4 with new glass and construction tech that will reduce its size-weight would be perfect.

I'm sure it's going to become one of my favourite lenses too I had an all day shoot yesterday with 7 models and ended up using the tamron 70-200 on my k1 for the majority of the shots, mostly as I'm more used to it and know how sharp it is as well as being great for the backgrounds. I'll definitely be using the 85mm a lot more in future tho

new K1 lenses

The Problem with Modern Optics ? YANNICK KHONG

This supports the notion that, rather than going to all the trouble and expense of designing new lenses for the K-1, Pentax should revisit old designs since discontinued from the manufacturing line, not least because new glass for digital seems not all that it's cracked up to be. Certainly this has been my experience with the expensive Sony Zeiss primes, which also suffer dreadful QC (I mean really bad, like I want to cry bad).

So which lens designs should Pentax revisit? The FA's, the A*'s the FA*'s? Which ones?

How could Pentax improve these lenses for digital (i.e., ELD elements, lens coatings etc), getting rid of the purple stuff (CA/LoCA) without affecting their character?

What other qualities should the updated versions have (i.e., weather sealing, focus limiters, in-lens stabilisation for the long glass . . . )?

Could some of them be corrected to be genuine apochromatic lenses? Like those £5000 Leica 50/2's and the rather lovely Zeiss 135/2.

Love to hear members thoughts on this. I have no clue as to coatings and the effects of special elements, combinations of elements and really technical lens stuff. Interested to learn.
I think Pentax should pay Tamron and Sigma to offer their wonderful new arrays of lenses with Pentax mounts. It seems that those two companies are refusing to offer the K1 mount on any of their new stuff. I don't understand why. They would do it for cash, I assume.

It might be worth 3rd parties offering K-mount lenses where holes exist in the Pentax catalogue and where the 3rd party can easily produce a batch from existing lines.

Since K-mount variants are proprietary, there may be issues with "getting it right", and they might not want to put the effort in for what is a relatively small market. KAF4-mount should be closer to something like the Canon EF-mount than the earlier mechanical-links were, but unless Pentax is willing to give the specs away ...

Even a 400/4.5 like the Minolta AF 40mm f/4.5 APO G HS (1920g) would be awesome.

D-FA* 300mm 2.8 ED DC AW (with limiter) and D-FA* AF-Converter 1,4x AW would be great.

A D FA* 300mm f/2.8 is a 5500-6000 euro/$ lens.

I would get a D FA* 1.4x RC. Probably. The condition being I must be able to handle it + D FA 150-450.

Some of my "Ladies" spring to mind, but especially these lassies listed...

"Special Lady” (Pentax-A 50mm F1.2),
“Sweetheart” (Pentax-A* 85mm F1.4),
"Lady Luck” (Pentax-A* 135mm F1.8)

I would buy it. I have D FA 150-450 and it is optically not good enough. Soft at 450mm, there is no point of using tc with this lens.

f/4 works. After hauling the K-1+grip and D-FA* 2.8/70-200 round the farm yesterday I miss my Sony 4/70-200 G. f/4's are typically a bit better optically too, although that D-FA* is tough to beat.
