Will the earthquakes DELAY the K-1?

Well, all you pre-order people have been waiting a while, so a little longer wont matter will it?

Hope not. I believe the first batch is already on ship or through custom clearance now.

Pentax has its factories in vietnam now. have a look at all your lenses, the newer ones should all show "made in vietnam". Thus no delay. However, may japan recover quickly from this tragedy

I read earlier that some electronics suppliers were disrupted, manufacturing wont be but distribution may be?

With the enthusiasm of the " cant get it soon enough" people, it'd be a disappointment knowing your pre order is made but sitting somewhere, WAITING!

The new DFA 15-30 and DFA 24-70 are Tamron/Pentax, and made in Japan. Production of them could be at risk, I guess.

The D FA* 70-200, the D FA 28-105 and D FA 150-450 are the new FF lenses assembled in Vietnam. But depending on the supply-chain for them (ie all the parts for the lenses, like optical elements, could come from Japan) even their production could potentially be disrupted by earthquake problems.

The cameras actually come from the Philippines. Doubt the earthquake will have much of an impact this late in the launch process.

This could impact production down the track if not in the short term

But only if the K1 sensors are also made here.

+1. The bodies have been in mass-production for a while who knows how much Philippines have produced up to this point. I'm guessing pallets or at least enough to fulfill pre-orders.

A short communication with their distributors one way or the other would seem to be a professional courtesy. In the meantime I'll continue to watch daily (sometimes hourly) for any blip in the status of my order.

It'll get here when it gets here. I can wait for what amounts to an adult toy (for me).

Of course the delivery will be delayed. Remember back in October when the day "full of frames" didn't happen and all the accusations that once again Pentax was lying about a full-frame camera. How Pentax never intended to release a full-frame DSLR ever.

So obviously Pentax made up this story of earthquakes so they can blame production delays. Now all we need do is wait for the announcement that tsunamis sank all the container ships carrying the mythical K-1, all the hard drives containing the designs were irretrievably damaged by the earthquake or a hacker from Canon or Nikon. Pentax is doooomed™

am i the only one who thinks it's kind of sickening that so many are more concerned about the status of their electronics as opposed to the health and safety of thousands of people?

dozens have died and hundreds of thousands have been affected, i'm pretty sure your little camera can wait if need be

+1. I've been waiting anxiously for this camera ever since Ricoh announced their plans to produce a FF. If a calamity happened to their factories, etc., I'd understand why there would be a delay and do what I can to make their immediate priorities mine (safety of their workers, area, etc.). My current cameras work just fine. They'll help with the waiting.
