Totally loving K1 with HD Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 Limited

I did not expect this lens to work so well - but it's focusing quicker than on my K3 ii, there is no noticeable vignetting (unless i am missing something), it looks great on the camera, and feels fast even though it's only 2.8.

Photo below was shot at 12,800 ISO (!), 1/400, 3.2... Cleaned up a little in Lightroom. I specifically upgraded to the K1 to get the high ISO quality and I am pretty shocked at his one. I do think 12,800 is pushing it a bit, but it worked.

This is my daughter in her first Trapeze class. A lot of my kids classes take place in warehouses converted for sporting so I am always trying to push the shutter speeds and ISO.

Does the K1 have that classic Pentax easy handling?

Pretty impressive! Really (surprisingly) good results at 12,800.

If it's there, it's obscured by the general background. Only shooting a marked target on an evenly lit white wall or a perfectly clear blue sky will really show it up. I've used the DA40 on Pentax film bodies with a program mode (P3) with reasonable results; until someone shows me hard evidence that it vignettes to a degree that post can't easily hide, it really does seem to be a truly full-frame lens. Not surprising given its alleged ancestry (40mm M 2.8).

Does it make any difference if you use the hood or not on the DA40? I could imagine the lens being fully FF but the hood being designed for APS-C.

The first thing that caught my attention looking at this photo was the lovely colour and contrast. Checked and found that the lens used was from the DA LTD family, whose colour and contrast character I am well familiar with, and love. Am utterly delighted to see the K-1 faithfully preserving that colour and contrast.

Then came the pleasant shock - all this at ISO12800?

Phew!

I know what the diminutive 40mm looks like on a K-5 (kinda cute actually), but what does it look like on the much bigger K-1?

Just when I thought I couldn't want the K-1 anymore than I already do.

That said, I really like the idea of a 40 XS on a K-1, possibly with a small hood.

I'd like to apologize in advance if this come off as a bit harsh... but I'm really trying to justify my k-1 love here... This example - it really doesn't do anything for me... I guess I'm just having trouble visualizing the actual lighting conditions here, but I have taken photos of 4 yr olds running rampant in indoor soccer practices (maybe similar if not worse lighting) on my Samsung Galaxy s7 or my wife's iPhone 6+ with similar if not superior post processing?

Sorry if this came across as harsh but in all honesty this probably isn't a great use case for the k-1 I guess?
