My long appraisal of the K1 and how we got to it

Jonathan Gorse Photography | Pentax K1 - the 35mm legend returns...

Always interested in comments but I hope it's an entertaining read and even makes you laugh!

Jonathan, thanks for posting this link.

Being relatively new to the Pentax system I was unaware of its' storied history. This blog article did a great job of educating a newbie like me on the long history of Pentax SLRs.

Nice! Not exactly unbiased, of course, but I doubt it was supposed to be. Certainly as a hagiographic cheerleader for Pentax I think you have a very good turn of phrase.

In connection with the lenses, it strikes me that if you really want bragging rights and want to drop names, you should have mentioned that the FA 43 Limited was adapted as a limited edition for the Leica mount.

Fun read! Pentaxians are a bit like Red Sox fans, and with the K-1 it's like we won the world series against the Yankees.
(Thankfully we're not as much like West Ham supporters, though it would make the gear conventions a lot more exciting.)

+1 ... and let's look forward to the results of the collaboration between those who brought us the Theta and those who brought us the K1.

That was a great read and a I learnt something about Pentax's history. I've been a canon shooter for 20 years by default simply because the first camera I bought was a canon. I've become a Pentax convert of sorts after buying the 645z which is AMAZING. I am now going to buy a K1 and a couple of lenses since I no longer use my canon gear for my landscape work and need a companion camera for the 645. I guess it is a way of dipping my toe in the water and will not sell all my canon gear yet but I wouldn't be surprised if 2 or 3 years from now I have fully converted. All this to say that if Pentax can temp me away from Canon then they could make an inroad into the market generally not just to existing pentax users. Nikon users may have less need to switch as they at least have sensors with decent DR

Excellent article. I was one of those who bought a Pentax slr in the 1960's. I worked at a publishing company, the publisher told me to get an slr camera...said either Pentax or Nikon. The publisher's camera dept. were using primarily Pentax...I bought a Pentax S1a and a Sekonic hand held meter...and that's how I started.

Yep, everything Jonathon says is correct. That is the way it was....and I hope that a rebirth of the storied Pentax brand will be the way it....is !

As a long time Pentaxian *, since 1968, I found the article to be accurate and spot on regarding Pentax history. What Mr. Gorse says is true. Let's hope that Pentax does continue to increase their market share .

* As an aside, I realized I had incorrectly spelled Pentaxian, so I corrected. My spell checker insisted that the word I wished to use was Phoenician.
