Composition Adjustment and Auto Level Questions

I can't seem to find any answers regarding these questions, so any feedback would greatly be appreciated:

1. Can Composition Adjustment and Auto Level work at the same time?
2. Can sensor shift (up, down, left, right) and sensor tilt be adjusted at the same time?
3. Can full frame lenses be forced into crop mode? If so, can Composition Adjustment be used in crop mode? If so, is there more room to adjust the composition?

Last set of questions are related to Video Mode:

4. Is the OVF usable while recording video?
5. Does focus assist (zooming while focus ring is active) work while recording video?

TIA!

No

No. You can activate on-demand autofocus, however.

I believe so.

Tilt cannot be adjusted at all. Rotation and shift can be adjusted at the same time, however.

Yes to the first two. The amount of shift available remains the same while in crop mode.

"Auto level" aka horizon correction is a hardware feature, the camera's SR system tries to keep the sensor level. It can correct up to 2 degrees of horizontal tilt with the SR off, and 1 degree with the SR on.

Since with Composition Adjustment you take control of the sensor's positioning - including rotation - I'm pretty sure Horizon Correction is disabled in that mode.

Full frame lenses can be forced in crop mode, but the amount of movement available to the sensor is obviously identical. But since you're cropping anyway, you can do it in post-processing, effectively adding another, software layer of "composition adjustment".

Thanks guys!

I completely misunderstood auto level. I assumed both horizontal and vertical tilt corrections. Since I primarily shoot architecture, vertical corrections would have been a huge bonus.

Now that Kunzite explained crop mode doesn't provide greater composition adjustments, my hopes of this camera turning any lens into a solid shift lens has been squashed. It's important in my field to get things right in-camera, so it would have been awesome to have maximum crop/composition controls.

Maybe a firmware update?

*fingers crossed*

Sounds like you'd benefit from a dedicated T/S like this one:
Samyang 24mm F3.5 ED AS UMC Tilt/Shift Lens Reviews - Samyang Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

Composition adjustment can be used in conjunction with the lens's shift, giving you an even greater degree of flexibility.

Or you could use a crop lens and simply keep the camera in FF mode, manually cropping away parts that are dark, and keeping prats beyond the frame that are sharp.

The adjustment range for Composition Adjustment is +/- 1.5mm up, down, left or right (+/- 1mm when rotated); rotating range of +/- 1 degree (quoting from the manual). It's much better than nothing and surprisingly effective. But, it's no view camera replacement
