I think both of these lenses are available now so hopefully someone has had a chance to test both. The 28-105 seems a little old fashioned, slow and consumer oriented but is not really that cheap - is it a high quality lens? And by that I mean will it be as sharp and good quality as the 24-70 at apertures between f8 & f16 for landscape photography purposes?

I have almost made up my mind to get a K-1 as backup and complimentary body to my 645z but need to decide on a suitable lens. Maybe the 28-105 might better suit my purposes but there is not much info out there about it yet.
I don't own either of the Pentax lenses, but I am quite familiar with both formats having owned both lenses, but from other manufacturers. I would say the 28-105 would be the perfect travel lens. It is also a "daylight" lens due to the slow aperture range. Not sure, but it is probably cheaper than the 24-70mm. The 24-70mm in my opinion is the most versatile of the two. With its wide aperture you can shoot in dim environments and daylight environments with a low ISO. To me the 28-105 is very limited. I would probably get annoyed with this lens very quickly due to not so wide minimum focal length and the F5.6 aperture which probably kicks in after you go past 70mm. On the other hand for day shots the 105mm reach is a plus.
