Hey, isn't this 36 MP sensor supposed to out-resolve all legacy Pentax glass???

Whatever happened with that? Did the lenses not get the memo that they're supposed to suck???

P.S. This is assuming that any FF Pentax glass exists at all, because, remember? Pentax didn't have any FF-ready lenses to complement the K-1?

For the most part, this seems to be true with a few exceptions. Some lenses that looked great on APS-C are a bit of a letdown. But let's face it: the equivalent comparison people are making is to $3500 cameras with $2200+ lenses. What do you expect? I sure hope that money is buying something better--a lot better! 75% of the performance of a D810 is a pretty good bargain since we're paying 2/3s the price, probably less on lenses. The critics aren't saying "Oh, yeah, this $300 Nikon 50mm resolves all 36MP while this old film era Pentax doesn't." It's more like "This $500 Pentax doesn't resolve as much as this $2200 Nikon lens!" Uh, duh!

But it's not the end of the world since 36MP is *a lot* and unless you're printing it's more than you will need. I've been exporting at 22MP (sometimes at 16MP) and been pretty happy with that.

The 24Mpx K-3 is more pixel-dense so the larger 36Mpx should be a relief to some here

Which FF lenses does the sensor out resolve? I haven't read any examples yet.

Some of the old lenses may outresolve the new ones...

Ditto. Name some specifics or the sources of the comparisons.

My "Ladies" don't seem to be aware of this either.

And I'm as sure as hell not telling them...

Generally best to neglect mentioning such things to the ladies. At least in my experience...................

A bit of softness is more flattering for an aging lady anyway.

(Or was that out of order?)

I get tired of doing this over and over again....

This photo taken with a Panasonic FZ1000 1inch sensor 1/4 the size of APC-s, it's 20 MP and at 100 ISO can almost out resolve a K-3. We have a long way to go before sensors out resolve lenses.

Or it you want to know how Pentax lenses do, look at the results from various lenses mounted on a Q. Again, very small sensor, very little sign that the sensor is out resolving the lens. It's great theory, except for the part where there isn't a shred of empirical evidence to support it.

That is pretty bold.

@MadMathMind, I do believe it is time to stand and deliver. A good place to start would be the list of lenses that were out-resolved by the K-7 sensor.

I think that if anything will disappoint, it'll be the corner performance and vignetting of certain legacy lenses, especially zooms. The general sharpness seems fine though!

Sadly, the biggest disappointment most feel when getting the K-1 is that they don't suddenly become better photographers. Maybe the next camera will just choose the subject and lighting and take the picture for you?
