why is K-1 backorder ...

Both BHphoto and Adorama are showing no stock for as long as when I check...

Now Amazon have two unit left.... and is selling at a higher price, 1899 ??

is production super low, or they are selling like hot cake?

I'm not sure that earthquake is entirely the issue. The camera has sold well. Ricoh was pretty cagey about what exactly is impacted and what isn't so it is certainly possible. The truth also is that the camera has been a good seller in relation to the amount of supply they have on hand.

That's not Amazon proper, it's a third-party seller.

Pretty high initial demand, that's for sure.

Unlikely. At least not yet, surely Ricoh would have had enough sensors in inventory to cover initial production runs. Going forward as parts dry up it will likely be an issue.

Not Amazon. A third party seller trying to take advantage of desperate buyers. Not sure he even actually has any inventory. order from him and he will buy it elsewhere and ship to you.

Hot cakes. They are selling as soon as they come in to stock.

It's mainly due to the fact that WAY more people pre-ordered the K-1 than Ricoh initially first thought.

As far as the earthquake relation, not really a major cause of low stock (extremely minor), see above statement.

Like many other members have already said on many other posts, "You can't believe everything you read on Amazon about a specific product, especially when it comes to "Discontinued" products".

this is the 5th amazon third party seller to have stock... two have been fishy (selling for $800 from a store someone created in the previous 24hrs) and the other three have been real sellers with lots feedback selling for $1900 (same total as amazon official store, where i'd be paying $100 in tax). on tuesday, the camera box (via amazon) had 10 in stock, but they disappeared in a few hours... i watched them go ... i have to wait another month or so.

I think the initial uptake/demand has been greater than anticipated.

The Looking Glass in Berkeley had two yesterday until I arrived and purchased one.

They should still have one that you can order on their website DSLR : Looking Glass Photo & Camera

Demand outstripping. My local Pentax Rep mentioned that they had pre sold their entire first two runs.

But I guess he did not tell you how many were produced in each run ?

That would be the more interesting thing to know.
