Maybe buy an inexpensive lens like mentioned above, a manual 28mm would do the job. If money is not an issue buy one of the newer lenses as suggested. If landscapes are going to be your main interest definitely get a decent tripod, mine was about 150$, ( cheap by most people's standards) it is important.

It is possible to find the FA 20mm f/2.8. I found one on eBay for $518 (shipping included). There are several Japanese sellers with 100% positive feedback. I have had very good luck with them and have over time purchased an FA* 200mm f/2.8 and FA* 300mm f/4.5. I used to be leery of buying lenses on eBay, but I have found that the reputable sellers are fully disclosing issues in their descriptions. I will not buy from a seller with less than 100% positive feedback as a seller and I read their feedback comments before buying.

. . . the fa31 is a good choice for landscape shooting, because it has minimal field curvature issues
Can you direct me to where you obtained information on the FA 31 field curvature? I checked out your link but didn't see that discussed.

filters would be a problem, and i don't recall seeing anyone post solutions for it.
I am not sure why this is sometimes cited as a problem. My FA 31 accommodates a 58mm thread.

the field curvature characteristics are displayed in the photos, so it's best seen on a comparison basis with other lenses of similar focal lengths... here is an explanation of sorts: photo technique magazine Field Curvature

it can get complicated with lenses that have a donut-shaped focus field(aka wavy field curvature), wherein the far edges and the center 1/3rd are the sharpest parts of the picture.

i think that he was referring to this: "Pentax also implemented a built-in flower shaped hood which cannot be removed"

The movement in aurora is not too fast. Ideally you want to a sub 10s exposure though, which is about f2.8 at iso 3200 correctly exposed . You will still need a tripod. You can still get some nice colour with longer exposures but it starts looking mushy like this.(from a not so close viewpoint on the australian mainland. (at close range I expect movement to be more of a problem)
30sec at f2.8 iso 1600

vs 10sec at f2.8 iso 1600 (underexposed and pushed hence noisy)

Obviously the K1 give you a big advantage over my K3 in this regard
I am seeing some moderate (for me) spherical aberration in this lens (look for the "birdies in flight" toward the corners, etc.
