K1 wired shutter release (Phoenix Aion)

From what I've been able to find, pretty much all previous models of APSC pentax cameras have a 2.5mm jack for wired remote release.

I haven't been able to find much about this topic on the K1... everyone just seems to recommend the infrared remote:

1) Does the K1 have the 2.5mm jack for a remote release?

2) Is this jack the mic or the headphone jack?

3) Anyone have experience using the (canon compatible (2.5mm jack)) Phoenix Aion with their K1?

Yes, No, and No.

The compatibility is the same as with other Pentax bodies, though, so if you've used it with an APS-C Pentax you should be good.

Yea, I'm dumb... I looked around at a 3D image of the camera and saw where the wired remote jack is... under the SD card slots.

Not quite under the SD slots. It's in a very small separate compartment, covered by a soft flap type cover, just below the SD slots cover. Thus, the SD cards do not have to be exposed to use the wired remote port. Hope this helps.

I've used Vello wired releases (K20, K5, K3, and now K1) and found them satisfactory and considerably less expensive than Pentax's own. I also have a couple Vello radio-remote releases that work perfectly. To be safe, I've purchased several and always carry two in the field against the possibility of failure or loss. I still wish Pentax would use a steel or brass shutter button threaded for an old-fashion, old-reliable mechanical cable release. Several "bridge" cameras have this feature, so it is far from unreasonable or unusable on a DSLR.

In particular Fuji had been good about this with their bridge cameras from the start.

Also Sony, at least on their top-of-the-line bridge camera (rx10 mk III).

Agreed, I'm coming from Fuji and I love that they have threaded shutter buttons not just on bridge cameras but many of their mirrorless cameras.
