Art Series 18-35 with Tamron-F 1.4X Pz-AF MC4 teleconvert vs Sigma 24-60mm F2.8 EX DG

I'm considering buying the Sigma 24-60mm F2.8 EX DG. I currently have the Sigma Art Series 18-35 F1.8 and I am getting the Tamron-F 1.4X Pz-AF MC4 teleconverter delivered shortly.

I'm wondering whether there are any thoughts in the forums of which would be better as the Sigma 24-60mm F2.8 EX DG is a full frame lens - and the Sigma Art Series 18-35 F1.8 is APS-C - but with the teleconverter it should be a 24-49 in full frame (I'm hoping it'll all be ok)

The 18-35 with teleconvert might be quite heavy - but given the teleconverter is 1 f-stop they'll both be F2.8 so yeah i'm thinking it should be a little bit worse image quality than the normal art lens but probably similar image quality or maybe a bit worse than the 24-60.

Has anyone got both of these and can tell me what the difference is or have any thoughts?

If you really want a full frame system, I would suggest selling the Sigma 18-35 and the teleconverter, and buying a f/2.8 standard zoom.

There may be very few here (or anywhere) who have the combination of lenses required to answer your question.

Using a teleconverter on a wide angle zoom is generally a bad idea.

Indeed, something like the D FA 24-70mm will probably serve you better.

I'm cruious if the 18-35 with TC will cover full frame- can you post some shots when you get it?

BTW, is there even a 24-60mm Art? I thought Sigma only has the 24-105mm F4 as an Art FF zoom, though it isn't even available for Pentax.

The 24-60 f2.8 isn't an Art lens, it's an older budget-oriented model quickly superceded by the 24-70.

No the 24 to 60 is not Art - but on the forum it gets great results for sharpness - its cheap and lighter. Its only $300 AUD so seems like an ok deal for full frame.. I have a K20d and the K1 now also so its ok to have APS-C but I'll be sure to report on the results I get with the teleconverter. When can we expect a Pentax HD full frame teleconverter?

Heres the Sigma 24-60 review:

I'd like to see the OoF blur with the 18-35 Art + Tammy 1.4tc combo. I imagine that will be "unique".

Otherwise I like the suggestion of selling the 18-35 as mentioned above.

From my experience with the K-1 and the Pentax new HD 1.4x TC the full frame coverage is not guaranteed. Some lenses (like DA14mm) leave little black corners, suggesting that you'd have to use a 1.5x TC to really convert them for full frame.
Even then, the solution is not practical at all. It's bulky, you get often very pronounced aberations and the available f-stop may be smaller than you expected. Especially if near-perfect lens like DFA24-70 is available, it is difficult to recommend hacked solutions based on crop lenses and TC.
