Compatible flash with K1 for High Speed Sync

Hi everybody,

I hope you are all well.

I purchased the K1 one month ago, amazing camera.
The other day I was trying HSS with the godox t600 but unfortunately didn't fire.

It works at the x-sync speed no problem and I trigger it remotely with the godox X-1C (with my old canon 1100d the HSS was working fine).
Going through the K1 manual I discovered that these flashes are compatible for High Speed Sync:

AF540FGZ
AF540FGZ II
AF360FGZ
AF360FGZ II

Are these the only one that I can use for HSS?

Have a good week-end

Regards.

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

Yes, those are the Pentax-brand flash that support HSS via P-TTL. In addition to the Pentax offerings, some higher-end 3rd-party P-TTL flash also support HSS. My Sigma EF-610 DG Super supports HSS, but sadly the Pentax version of that flash has recently been discontinued by Sigma. Metz models 44 AF-2 and above also support Pentax HSS.

Forgot to mention above your Godox would support HSS on the K-1 if it were triggered with a Pentax-compatible Godox trigger. Sadly, I don't believe they make one

I am currently exploring flash options for my K1. I have read/watch that some people have achieved HSS with attaching a Cactus V6 II to the body, and then attach a Godox trigger on top of the Cactus. This combo then trigger off body Godox flashes remotely. There are few Youtube videos that demonstrated this. There is also one thread that shared this success in the Studio & Flash subforum. For on body option there is Shanny SN600FGZ. It claims that it can do HSS and P-TTL. I have no experience of it.

To add to the list, current model flashes for Pentax that directly support HSS + PTTL also include:

Metz 52 AF-1, Metz 58 AF-2, and the Priolite MBX500 and MBX1000 strobes.

If you can find them, older flashes like the Sigma EF-530 Super will also directly do Pentax HSS. Should work fine on K-1.

If you're already using a Godox system for off-camera flashing, then perhaps going down the Cactus V6II plus suitable Godox trigger system route is the most logical starting point.

If you also want a good versatile P-TTL option for both on and off camera working, including HSS, then a couple of Pentax flashes such as AF-360/540 FGZII would be a good choice.
