What pentax needs to do

It needs to make new full frame Lim lenses. Especially something like 20-40mm lim but for FF.
And it needs make new GR (I know that's a FF section but still) with that new 24mpx sensor which is in KP.

I'm definitely looking forward to more Limiteds!

You mean what Ricoh needs to do, right?

Since Pentax isn't a company.
:P Brand, same difference.

And it's included in the company name : "Pentax Ricoh Imaging Co. LTD." , so it is a company on their own label, just abbreviated.

It's no longer included, it's Ricoh Imaging Company, LTD now.

Ricoh thinks they first have to fill the large aperture primes line up and add a affordable Telezoom. There will be surprises though, but probably in the form of refreshed lenses in the current line up. In the mean time you can use the old F35-70 as your limited zoom.

I look forward to the new lenses but I'm glad I have my current kit before it gets freshened.

Some new Limiteds would be nice (a slow ~20mm in a compact form would be divine). However, the Pentax/Ricoh priority for DFA primes seems (based on what we have seen with the DFA* 50mm) to be in the other direction, taking the challenge to the Sigma Art end of the spectrum (BIG lenses with second-to-none optical performance). I can understand this move - first, there already are the FA Limiteds, aged as they may be, they have a good reputation and are already on market fulfilling their purpose, and second, if they can match, or even dethrone, the Sigma Arts it would be a major marketing coup. If Pentax can become the first party brand leading the battle for sharpness it'll help solidify the 'Premium' label that Ricoh is chasing and give a compelling reason for Canon/Nikon users to switch (along with the very good pricing of the K-1).

That said, the KP shows that the Limited-ethos is far from dead. I think it is a case of the time not yet being right for new full frame Limiteds.

Ltds are selling OK, I assume. So Pentax is right adding larger aperture primes D-FA 50/85. A wide angle will follow. This will take two years. FF zooms from Pentax are missong as well as long glass or a TC 2x, 1.4x. Don't await an update on Ltds withon the next 2-5 years.

How about the mythical 35mm f/1.4?

Or the even more mysterious 20mm f/1.4?

The new FF primes seem to take their cues from the * lenses, not the Limiteds.

Yes, I agree. For my K-1 I have both big, heavy, well-corrected lenses like the Sigma 35mm Art and several Limiteds.

Ricoh's market research is obviously telling them the * lenses are needed more.

I like the form factor of my DA15 and DA21, but they only work in crop mode on the K-1, obviously.

Pentax (Ricoh) needs to babysit my 3 year old for a few weeks so I can take advantage of all the cameras and lenses I have now.
It is the least they can do...
