Pentax K1 and NFC

Hello all. New here. Just got my K1 last week. One heck of a piece of gear. Last night I was experimenting with the Image scan app on my Android to remotely connect to my K1. Well, after fidling for awhile got wifi to work but strange thing. A NFC icon appeared on my K1 rear lcd right alongside the wifi icon. I was under impression the K1 did NOT have NFC. I have not been able to reproduce this and wish I had taken a pic of the lcd. This tells me that somewhere embedded in the software the NFC is still there. Anyone experience this? I did upgrade to newest firmware. Thanks

Welcome to the forum. I read somewhere that pre-production K-1 had NFC. Maybe you've found that it still lurking in there somewhere!

Yes you are right the K-1 does not have / support NFC. I have not seen the particular occurrence but I would not be surprised if the wifi code block is common to KS2 (with NFC disabled) - maybe it showed up until pairing was (manually) completed?

Agree the K-1 is quite a camera!

Image Sync App...sorry

The K-1 doesn't have NFC. AFAIK only the K-S2 does. You have to manually connect to its wi-fi.

The fact that it is not listed as a feature still doesnt explain why it showed up but I'm gonna try and replicate the steps I took to get that NFC icon to display on the lcd. On a mission! 😄

Even though NFC support is not listed in the K-1 specifications, pre-production models of the K-1 had a NFC icon on the grip, like the one below on display at PhotoPlus Expo in Paris in October 2015 ... so maybe the NFC hardware is still inside current K-1's, and only needs software to switch it on.

Yeah mine does not have the grip icon, so the NFC must still be in the software/hardware somewhere.
