It's not that bad once you figure it out.

SMc and HD : coatings. Both are fine, HD is more recent.

SDM and DC : AF system. DC is more recent, faster and more reliable. Both are silent. They supersede the screwdrive that was used in older lenses (which is noisier, but very reliable. Screwdrive does not work well in live view).

some screw drive lenses are quick and wonderful with lv... i took my da 70mm to a concert (low light, weird colors) and it was fine every time. on the other hand, lv is mostly unusable on my d-fa 50mm macro.

I find it slow and almost 100% unreliable with my K-1. I'm to the point where I think Live View is useless. I don't think it ever focuses right for me.
