I'm surprised no one has mentioned the K 20mm f4. I know they are hard to find but it is one of the best ultra wide Pentax lens.

I've considered the Samyang, but what about filters. I have 100mm filters that I'd like to be able to use, but I also don't want to spend money on another holder.
Some older MF Ultra wide Pentax lenses had built in filters, so that problem is solved with these lenses.

K or A15/3.5
K18/3.5
A16/2.8 Fish-eye
K17/4 Fish-eye

A lot of the old UWA are not optimized for digital.
The edges are not good even though they have been highly rated before on film.

I'm on the market for an ultra-wid prime to use with my K-1. Do y'all have any suggestions? I'm consider the Pentax FA* 24mm f/2
The 24/2 is a lovely lens, but not really an ultra wide. For wide wides right now I have an A20/2.8 and a A15/3.5. The 20 is excellent, the 15 needs a bit of massaging as it does have significant fall off at the corners.

Off brand lens

How good are the off brand lenses for K1? I have seen some awesome pictures, but I am not sure how much post production work was done with those!!!

I really like my new Rokinon 20mm f1.8. I have posted some shots recently in the Samyang thread in the lens section and some shots from a recent trip to an airshow in the K1 photos thread.

They are all good by now. I bet it is pretty much impossible to by a dog of a lens unless it is defective somehow.
At the risk of incurring people's wrath, most equipment flaws are actually defective tests.

The fa 24/2 is a very good lens stopped down to f5.6 or 8. when full open mine is less sharp in detail and has CA in corners. I do also have the Zeiss Flektogon 4/20 in M42, which is in my view perfect for landscapes and close ups. The sharpness in corners may be an issue for other purposes but it is better than the Tak 20/4.5 in M42. The Tak 20/4.5 resolves the details in the center a little different, may be better.

I myself, as a landscape photographer am holding off. I ha e the 24-70 dfa and apart from the very expansive 15-30 am quite dissatisfied with the primes on offer to date. I believe that Pentax will release a nice wide prime this year. Somewhere between 15 and 20mm and fast. Until they release one, I won't settle for old glass on new sensors and won't go for a third party. I am a pentaxian and only want their glass. Wait for October guys. We will get a surprise

I think they are pretty good. The one thing you have to pay attention to is decentering, which seems to be much more prone with really wide angles (to me ultra wide is wider than 20mm on full frame).

I just got a Pentax 31mm Limited... brilliant lens. I'm wondering if I should just hold off on a wide/ultra-wide. The 31mm to see seems more like a "normal" since I think of the 50mm as more of a short telephoto. This is on full frame.

Mattox, I mean no disrespect, but the attitudes expressed in your post seem very rigid. If in 2017 you're going to be a Pentaxian, I think flexibility is the watchword. Otherwise, you're better off in Canon or Nikon, maybe Sony, plus the best lenses they offer, Sigma Art lenses, or the Otus line from Zeiss.

As an amateur you can afford to pick and choose like this, professionals just use the right available tools to get the job done.
