a Full-Frame System MILC to boost Pentax market share...

.
from the K-01 which was rather a ~fiasco~ despite its " Design Award " :
- Standard K Mount : No foreign Lenses through Adapters !
- Sloooowwww and unreliable AF system !

from the K-1, a Must-Have from a Photographer's point of vue,
if there wasn't those severe limitations in the lens choice :
+ the Image Quality of a Foveon sensor w/o its Low QE : Max ISO = 100 !
At least for every static subject in Pixel Shift Resolution mode !
+ Could explore every Material & Texture without any Aliasing,
2 very important features for Professionals or Experts...
The widest list of Features available among the DSLR world :
+ 2 tiny drawbacks only : No Built in Flash ?... No USB 3.0 ?...
These 2 apart, the Pentax K-1's Long Spec-List is Green everywhere...
... versus the Canon Eos 6D's (6DII ?) short one is mainly Yellow / Red !

Pentax to build a Partnership with one of the Adapters manufacturers.
Pentax to design a Full Frame System MILC with a Fast AF system !
( Sony has several FF Sensors with Built-in CD-Hybrid-AF systems )
This MILC has to be built around a Short back focus Electronic Mount
... let's call it PEM = Pentax Electronic Mount :
- the 1st Adapter to be the PEM to KAF4 100% Electronic Adapter !
- the 2nd Adapter to be the PEM to EOS 100% Electronic Adapter !
- the 3rd Adapter to be the PEM to KAF3 with Aperture control lever ?
- the 4th Adapter to be the PEM to NiKon-F w/ Aperture control lever ?
- etc, etc...

But you all will claim : « Look : Sony already did it ! »
No !... Not at all !
- Sony's menu madness is for geeks, not for Photographers !
- Sony's 11+7 bit lossy Raw file compression algo...
- Sony's Star Eater Raw file compression...
- 16:9 aspect ratio LCD screens
- Very Low battery life...
- Sony Alpha's IQ can't compete with Foveon's IQ at ISO 100 !
- etc...

The goal is Not to catch Canon Eos 1Dx, Nikon D5 or Sony A9 on Speed,
but to keep K-1's Pro IQ, K-1's generous Spec List, K-1's ease of use, etc...
and to gain access to all the Good & Best Lenses around the world !

Please, your thoughts about this Pentax Full-Frame System MILC...

By all means let us know where the research and development budget and resources will be found, and then we can talk.

Between ambition and achievement lie the barriers of logistics and money.

Nice Excel file, it shows that a K-1 is a good choice, and it's already available!

Easy. Just slap in a full frame sensor in the K-01.

If I remember correctly, someone in Ricoh's senior management ruled out another attempt at a MILC for a number of reasons, one of which was the absence of a suitable EVF, as they didn't feel the technology was adequate at the time. That technology has moved on a reasonable amount since that time, and I imagine the main difficulty now is that Ricoh doesn't have any spare money for the development of another line of product, while it restructures its main business.

If that constraint is so great that it can't afford to develop new lenses for the K-1 at a rate of more than one per annum, while presumably undertaking final development work on a K-3ii successor and some initial development work on the next versions of the K-1 and the 645Z, let alone developing a new entry-level APS-C body, then I can't see them being in a position to risk financing the creation of a MILC 35FF body, just yet.

For now, it shows that a Pentax K-1 is a good choice... for Pentaxians only !
Not for Canonists... Nikonians... Sonygeeks... Fujiists, etc...

it shows that... a Pentax FF System MILC may be available soon...
for Canonists... Nikonians... Sonygeeks... Fujiists, etc...

It's not to say Your / The Pentax K-1 is not the Best DSLR, I said it is :
«... the K-1, a Must-Have from a Photographer's point of view... »

It's to say : « Come on Canonists... Nikonians... Sonygeeks... Fujiists, etc...
... Pentax has the very Best System MILC to get the Best IQ from your Own Lenses ! »

Maybe Ricoh's Bank has money to bet on That New Product !
... it's not really an Heavy " Line of Product " as it doesn't need several New Lenses...
The Adapter of your choice, and it works !

Three different ways to react :
- The Accountant, Cost-Killer defending approach...
- The Conquering approach toward New Markets and / or New Niches...
- A mix of both...

A Full-Frame System MILC has not that more than a K-01 to be designed and developed :
- the Sensor Stabilization is the same than the K-1...
- the Fast AF System has to be chosen among Sony's FF Sensors...
- the EVF to be chosen among Sony's / other's products...
- the Adapters to be designed and developed together with their manufacturers...
- the Basic Compact Lens to build a Full-Frame System MILC Kit ?
- and huh, what else ? The PEM Mount !

The goal is to create winning new product !
(Very) Attractive for customers while bringing (Lots of) money to Ricoh...
Pentax often proved to be able to create such products

Who the hell thought about such a Giant 6x7 SLR body in 1969 ?
... plus tens of Fantastic Lenses from 35 to 1000 mm ?

Pentax has said a few times already that as far as them being in/continuing to be the mirrorless market, it's not even on the back-back burner. Can they continue to do it? Yeah. Will they do it? Nope, not unless they know for a fact they're going to make a good profit from it.

YES, great to use your imagination....However

WHATABOUT, dfa primes/Qsystem/new APSc flagship body/MF 645z?..As well as the Ricoh branded cameras..RI have enough on their minds!

And when you consider the Nikon FF ML rumours, which are likely then the market is reasonably full.

Perhaps lay off the wine for a bit and spend some of the time you waste on fantasy typing marathons on an engineering degree, so you can apply for a job at Ricoh to quickly knock out all this super-easy stuff?

Or buy a majority share of the company/invest enough money into the company to make them do what you want.

Oh my...

Money is mostly in lenses, not bodies...
To put out a body that will work with every single lens out there is a suicide, IMHO.
Sony managed to make it a success for a number of very specific reasons, among which the fact that it was the first to do it.
Pentax? fuggeddaboutit.

I wouldn't say never-- surely Ricoh/Pentax folks are thinking and discussing options for the future right now and are trying to figure out if they can make a go of it as a company that basically only sells SLRs.

If Pentax keeps the K mount, then they limit themselves with regard to how small they can make the camera body and lenses. At the same time, if they release a brand new mount, I can't imagine how long it would take them to get lenses for it completed. As for the auto focus, there is no particular reason to believe that Pentax would make auto focus on a K-02 better than they have been able to make auto focus on the K-1. My expectation would be that it would be equivalent, even with auto focus points on the sensor. Battery life would needs be shorter as well since EVFs are more power hungry than optical viewfinders.

Regardless, I just hope they continue trying to innovate and release new products.

I agree - a good reminder of how good a camera the K-1 is. Of course things move on, of course we look to the future, but it's easy to forget amongst all the headline grabbing releases that the K-1 continues to be a great camera in its class.
