Tamron 28-75 + K1

Overall I am pretty happy with this old lens. I ordered it on Amazon for $259 and they forgot to send me the hood shade so Amazon gave me a credit for $51!. I pretty much got this lens for $200. It seems its pretty sharp @ 2.8 and I love how close I can get with it.

Nice deal, Nick!

It's a very good lens. Some people say it's soft at f/2.8, and - to be fair - it is a little soft there, as you'd expect wide open. But, I believe a lot of people simply haven't taken time to accurately calibrate AF fine adjustment for their copies. It's perfectly usable wide open, and *great* from f/4. I use one with my APS-C Pentax gear, and it's a fantastic walk-around lens (with a focal-length range that works well for me). I also have one in Sony A-mount that I use on my full-frame gear, and I'm generally very happy with that too. Edge performance starts to show its limitations on full-frame, but it's still a great piece of glass, especially considering the price

Congratulations on a great deal! I loved the lens on my K-1 especially for close up shots. I recently sold my copy in favor of a prime lens for a different format, but it and the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 are great pieces of glass that do not break the bank. I know our cameras are weather resistant, but I realized that it is unlikely that I would risk taking mine out in inclement weather, so paying a premium for weather resistant lenses didn't make much sense for me. I like the Tamron 28-75mm much better than the D FA 28-105mm. I think it produces better colors and contrast. I sold my copy of the D FA and kept the Tamron :-)

What a bargain! The IQ is pretty good and it's not too heavy for a f/2.8 zoom, either.

I agree with everyone... that's an amazing value! I also don't think you'll miss the lens hood. Not sure if you replaced yours, but the hood can clip the edge of your photos on the K-1... so I rarely use it with the lens. In fact, I don't even know if I still have the lens, or at least where it's at. I actually have both Tamron 28-75, and the
D FA 28-105 lens. I think they are both extremely affordable, and both give sharp results... just different situations. I use the 28-105 as just a great walk-around lens or if/when I happen to be in a situation that might include some rough weather... and the Tamron for low-light and as a jack-of-all-trades lens for more professional work.

I have no clue what magic combination of words made them give you $50 dollars back, but that's amazing!

Just for clarity, that's the D FA28-105 and not the FA28-105 you're talking about, right? I have the old FA lens and really like it for an older zoom lens, but it's not in the same league

Yes... sorry, my mistake. Yes, I meant the newer D FA 28-105 WR. Thanks for the clarification
