Focus ring turns beyond infinity in Pentax HD 70-200mm f2.8

Hi,

Last week I purchased new Pentax HD 70-200mm f2.8. Focus ring turns beyond infinity point but the distance-scale-display stops at infy.
Is this normal for this particular model of lens? Pictures came out blurry after I turned the ring beyond focus point.

I purchased the lens from B&H so I have the option of returning so would like to clarify whether this is a faulty lens or not.

Thanks

Hi pentaxfall. What you are experiencing is quite normal and is called Quick Shift focus. Here is a link to a thread that is discussing it. Cheers.

Yes, this is normal. Most lenses these days are designed like this to allow for proper infinity focus across a broad range of ambient temperatures.

The infinity mark on the lens is usually not true infinity and you should always verify the focus via the viewfinder/screen when focusing manually.

Unrelated AFAIK.

Thanks every one for educating me.
I checked 50-135mm f.28 lens and that also rotates.
