Originally posted by normhead Don't go getting stupid on me here Ian. Especially in birding, you never have long enough and 400 is too short. 500 is barely adequate, a 600 ƒ4 with a 1.4 on it is quite nice.I know you like to "win" these discussions that that was pretty lame even for you.
Less than 10% of the wildlife photographs I have taken last 5 year was over 400mm on FF
take this one at 370mm, my regret with this photo is I should have went with 300m for better framing
One of my all time favorites was taken at 290mm on FF
There must be some inherent difficulty to shoot birds from bird feeds because you keep posting photographs as some testament to how hard they are to take, you might be right as I usually don't photograph wildlife around them.
And as far as winning these discussions, I know you can paint the snow yellow way more than I ever could, so you will winning these discussions is a given every time.
What I feel as really really lame is that everyone must photograph, use equipment, and think as how would Norm take this photograph. You must be right as you are the self appointed expert
I guess I'll have to start taking Bird photographs around the feeder to better understand you .
