I can recommend highly the SMC Pentax-M 35-70mm F2.8-3.5 on the K1. It is sharp from f2.8 and has wonderfull rendering. You won't miss a modern Lens. It is maybe the best manual zoom Pentax made in this range. Easy to work with. You focus on 70mm and zoom back to the position you want. The f3.5 is only at 70mm and it is only theoretical. The f-stop remains at f2.8.

If you find this lens, buy it! I love it. I only miss AF sometimes.

Since you already have the lens and camera, go for it! The Leitax conversion can be undone if you change your mind.

I have owned the Contax Zeiss 35-70 for about a year and a half that has the Leitax adapter conversion that I put on it. This is the lens that is normally on my K1. I have several lenses, but this is the go to for most things. Attached is a grab photo from last evening, iso 800, f8, 1/500. First image is the full frame, second a crop of 100% view. i've never been dissatisfied with neither the camera or the lens.

Is the conversion troublesome? Leitax site explains it might be. I had some plans to try this lens already in 2016 when I bought K-1 but decided to skip it then.

The Leitax conversion seemed to be rather straight forward to me from Contax mount. I also have the Zeiss 2.8/25 ZF that I converted from Nikon mount that was somewhat more involved. I believe that anyone with moderate skills can accomplish these conversions. There is also the option to send the lens out for the work if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. At any rate, these lenses are great if you do not mind manual focus and aperture adjustment. Coming from many film era cameras I find the process rather familiar and not a problem at all.

Regards, Ray

I used one for a while with A7R2 and it is better for manual focus work than their 24-70 GM. If the conversion is easier than ZF lens I will try it. I already converted 28/2 ZF which was piece of cake.
