Pentax K-1 arrived today

K-1 arrived today. Timing couldn't have been better. Yesterday was the first day, in a month, that the road to the house wasn't flooded. Today was also my only day off for a week. PentaxForums member hongzhibin1987 is great to deal with. The camera is in mint shape. Thanks man.

I've shot Pentax dslr's since the *ist DS. Always use cameras before reading the ib, to see how easy it is for students and others to use. My last dslr was a K-7. Thanks Pentax for not changing every basic control on every model. Had camera up and running in no time. Except none of my memory cards worked. Finally figured out it was set for 2 cards. I had only inserted one card (in jpeg slot) and tried to shoot Raw.

Was worried about the size increase. Well, It is bigger than the Q and smaller than the Pentax 6X7. Noticeably bigger and heavier than K-01 and K-7, but more comfortable than either to hold. The K-1 will be fine. The AF is amazing vs those two cameras.

Haven't looked yet. What is the most current firmware for the K-1?

Now a couple of images. Flowers with Pentax 200 macro. Building at night with Pentax 77 Limited.
Thanks for looking and for all the help,
barondla

You’re going to love the K-1 I look forward to 200mm Macro images - that lens is on my ‘someday’ list. I hope Mid-Mo dries out soon. My daughter’s commute to Jeff from Columbia has been challenging this spring.

This, even if you are set to backup to both cards, should still work with just one card inside. The camera will blink at you after every picture that you take, that the card is empty/not saving to card. But if you look at the number of pictures on the display... the number is going down. Yep... hope you enjoy the shooting! K-1 is perfect in almost every way.

I love my K-1......just picked up a manual Mitakon Zhyongi FF K-mount 85mm f/2 Manual lens from B&H for $140.00 on sale and the focus peaking is fast, accurate and easy. This lens is the bargain of the year if you prefer setting your own ISO, Aperture and MF. Here are a few samples in different conditions.

I saw a second hand K1 for sale today and am sorely tempted. The FF siren is singing her song. I have a DG 50/1.4mm sigma looking for a body to live on.

Do it...Saladin. Then pick up a Mitakon Zhyonghi 85mm as I did for about $170 all in (tax, B&W hood, & Clear UV filter) and let the K-1 rip....remember to make sure your firmware is updated as Pentax upgraded its performance in those updates.....

Well, two days ago I wasn't really considering a "return" (I never completely left but my K5 has gathered some dust in the move to MFT mirrorless) to Pentax. Then I saw a K1 for less than $1000 Australian. And now, having watched a Dave Hancock and TCS videos I've bought it, lol.

Mea culpa, what have I done?

Congrats. I find everything on the K-1 more refined than the K-7 I'm used to. Autofocus is faster, smoother, quieter. Screen is larger and control knobs, wheels just feel better.
Enjoy the new camera,

Thanks Baron.

Looking forward to using it. Mine is up to firmware 1.43 and seems to have around 5000 shutter actuations. I'll do a reset on the camera, upgrade firmware to 1.51 and then have a play.

By a lucky coincidence, I still have a Sigma 50/1.4 , Sigma 150-500 and a DA 35 in my cupboard so I should be ok for lenses for a bit.

Saladin, our K-1s must be twins! Mine has the same firmware and shutter count of about 5800. Haven't updated firmware yet - having too much fun with camera to take the time. You have some great "left over" lenses.
Have fun,
barondla

I've done extensive analysis and decided I don't really need it... but do you think I could consider selling it for even a half second? Not going to happen. It's luxury, one of my few.
