Then should consider the K-3iii and going back to “APS-C”.
The AF improvements are tempting along with the better low light performance! However I don't have large aperture lenses so the K-1 ii helps a bit there. Why the quotes around APS-C?

I guess it is just a personal idiosyncrasy to write “APS-C” and “FF”.
Those are common designations, but the origins are kind of strange.

My favorite is the "one inch" sensor, which has a 16mm diagonal!

Now that I think about it, I guess MF would be fuller frame...

I wanted to get more real estate out of my sensor, and to get a shallower depth of field, and also for low light capabilities, without having to crank the ISOs too high.

by real estate, i mean my 50mm didn't require me to stand FAR away to capture something. with the full frame, even an 85 was a perfect lens to use indoors. the crop wont allow me to do so.

i'm happy i switched.

I'm glad I eventually upgraded to ff, raws from my k-1 look better than ones from my pls Olympus EM1 and from GRIII. Cleaner shadows, better color & tone, super flexible raws. Trade offs are obvious too, size, bulk, price etc etc.

My KP gives me good shots at ISO values 12K or higher, and I expect even better from the K-3iii.
I use wider lenses - say at 30mm - instead of 50mm.
So in general, these reasons may be great for you, but I wouldn't switch to a K-1 for either of them.

i have mixed reasons including but not limited to:
- similar or better high ISO performance than K5 with no reduction in resolution
- improved AF performance
- compatibility with latest lenses

and knowing that i only own only 2 cropped sensor lenses (sigma 10-20 and samyang 8mm fisheye) every other lens i own from 14mm to 500 mm (at the time) was full frame already

oh absolutely! I mean, if the camera gear you have works for you, then no need to 'upgrade'. If I wasn't into portraits, and preferred, say, wildlife, then I'd go with crop.
Moreover, if my photoshop skills were better, then it wont really matter what camera gear i have.

Started with the K10D, moved to m43.
I realised I miss the shallow DoF sometimes and using old lenses (K mount and m42)
So I bought the K-1. Amazing camera

Love the dynamic range and the amazing resolution

Of course. This thread is about personal reasons for going full frame. They don't necessarily apply to anyone else. You shoot telephoto a lot. I seldom shoot anything longer than my FA 135mm on my K-1. Neither one of us is wrong, but it certainly will lead us in different directions as far as gear we choose.

I got old and my 4x5 got to heavy. And the Pentax 67 wasn't much lighter. And don't get me started on the cost of film and processing ... hence full-frame digital.

This thread is a wonderful listing of arguments with various aspects and motives. I appreciate you all sharing your views.

If I re-think my own reasons for purchasing K-1, the most important were options for a shallow DOF and better high ISO performance. Third - 36 Mpix, I guess, or the overall improved image quality. I'm very happy with my K-1, although it's not perfect. (Maybe K-1 Mark V will be perfect ... year 2030? )

I've been very happy with all of my Pentax DSLR's so far. Started from K200D and K-1 is the 6th. (K-5 and K-3 also still in use.) Oh, one exception: I was a little (but not much) disappointed in the high ISO (800 or above) performance of K-7.

When I got my K-5 II to go with my K-5, I converted my K-7 to infrared where high ISO is not that important. My IR work is done outdoors. For now and the foreseeable future I am sticking with APS-C because it does what I want to do and I have all the lenses I need.
