Do many actually use MLU these days ? With LV and electronic shutter you can eliminate any resonance vibration caused by mirror slap/shutter shock. My experience with the K1 and a long lens (on a tripod) is that the shutter shock is more of a problem than any mirror slap.
I simply use the 2s timer - long enough for mirror and finger induced vibrations to abate on a decent tripod, with my lenses. It's basically an automated MLU+trigger sequence. Combined with IR remote, definitely long enough for any reasonable setup.

Switching drive mode, same as on my K-5, was burned in my muscle memory and there comes the KP and switches those functions around on the 4-way controller ... countless ISO changes instead of 2s timer.

Yes, my need for mirror lock-up is astrophotography primarily, where I need tiny star images to be razor sharp.
Is there a way to manually invoke electronic shutter without using mechanical shutter?

I believe the way it works is that the exposure is started electronically and ended mechanically, in LV obviously.
