Can't upgrade firmware on k-1

Hi guys. Soooooo frustrated. I have the latest firmware update for the K-1 on a newly formatted card in slot 1. Turning on the camera while holding down the menu button does nothing. The camera just turns on like normal. What in the world am I doing wrong?

Issues with firmware updates are often related to either (a) an incorrectly extracted firmware update file or (b) the file being in the wrong place. There should be a .BIN file in the root of the SD card.

If that's not it, try these other troubleshooting steps:

Thank you for the instant reply Adam. The .BIN file is the only one on the card (brand new and just formatted). It's in slot #1 on my K-1. And, like I wrote, pushing the menu button while turning the camera on doesn't do anything. I've been through all the troubleshooting tips, and am still stalled out. Any other ideas?

Do you have the firmware for the correct camera? The K-1 and not the K-1 II?

Make sure it is slot #1. The closest slot to you is #2. Its the back slot that is #1.

Yes, it is for the K-1, not the K-1 II. I am so stumped by this. This is the page I got the download from. Latest PENTAX K-1 Firmware Update : Software Downloads | RICOH IMAGING

Thanks, jatrax. The card is indeed slot #1.

The file should be in the root of the card, there should not be any folders in it, just the file.

I would take any card you have in slot 2 out, just in case it trying to read that slot.

Hi everyone. I started from scratch and only put the firmware-update card in slot #1, and it worked perfectly. I really appreciated you all helping me out!

I have just done it on my own K-1. I have an old 2 GB SD card reserved for this purpose only. I just replaced the old .bin file by the new one on my laptop, without new formatting in the camera, and it worked perfectly. That is my way of handling firmware updates.
