What are the limitations/constrictions when using the DA 55-300mm f/4.5-6.3 with the K-1 or K-11?


I realize it was originally designed for the APS-C sensor, but I think I have seen some on the forum using it with the K-1 or K-11. Any reviews of the quality of results would be appreciated.

Here is a link with FF coverage of a lot of DA lenses including that one. Or, in the user lens review page of the specific lens you can click "show details" close to the bottom of the info table to see the little chart for that lens. It gives some info about how much it vignettes at various apertures and focal lengths. There's also this thread.

One note, there isn't a K-11, I'm guessing you mean the K-1 II (aka K1ii or K1 mark2).

It's a bit slow to focus on the K-1, but it still works pretty well.

Wait, which DA 55-300?

The title says f4.5-6.3, which is the PLM, but the referenced review is for the older screwdrive DA... my understanding is that the PLM vignettes more than the old one...

There are three variants of that one: The DA-L with a plastic mount, the DA, and the DA-WR that is weather resistant. They are optically the same as far as I can tell.

I have the DA HD 55-300mm f/4-5.8 WR which I like very much, and therefore not interested in the PLM version. I've found it performing better than ever with my KP, and have never thought about using it on my K-1 II. Very interesting, but I do have my old Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG macro, which I've found delivers very good results on my K-1 II, and has received very high reviews. It would be interesting to compare results from it with my Pentax DA lens, perhaps starting at 70mm so as to be identical to the Sigma model, where vignetting might not be a problem with this made for APS-C lens

This Sigma lens is not at all large or heavy, yet is a bit larger than the DA Pentax lens, which also has the WR advantage. AF might be faster with the Sigma lens- however, I've found that of the Pentax DA lens is much better when used on my KP compared with previous bodies which I still have and sometimes use.
