I wondered if Lanier products say Ricoh on the back. Nope! Ditto for Savin.

Interestingly, our Lanier copier/printer has Ricoh on the back.
Admittedly I had to get down on hands and knees to read it (it's in pretty small print), but it is there!

It also has a Sticker with the serial number and the service guy's details which has the familiar RICOH brand in bold red letters on the front of the machine.

Well, let's not be judgmental, and just say it's a niche product!

I wish I hadn't looked. What has been seen can never be unseen.

I think I might get over it though.......

Wouldn't it be cool if the next version GR was branded Pentax?

The Brand is very important. Just intuition, but I have a feeling that Ricoh will respect the Pentax brand in the future. It makes good business sense to preserve a brand's appeal in design philosophy, technical capabilities, and whatever else makes something appealing to a customer base. I like the earlier comment about Tata owning the Jaguar brand where you see a specialty brand being saved by an up and coming competitor. Say Tata started making the Jags like the Tata cars?? Utter destruction of the brand. It might still sell though, nothing is sacrosanct in business except changing with the times to make profit. But, IMHO, Ricoh should not have to do that with Pentax. All they need to do is give some leadership and direction and serious budget to the talented people who make up the Pentax design team (with a little Ricoh talent thrown in for spice).

Now if they could just fix the Marketing Dept while they are designing all the fun technical stuff.......

Nor the first few, to be honest. This thread was actually about the Ricoh logo on the back, or to be more accurate, this thread has become about how absurd many feel it is to refuse to buy the K-3 merely because of the Ricoh logo on the back.

And cheese sandwiches.

No kidding !?
I'd gladly keep that Ricoh logo given that this camera seems to be great, according to the positive comments I read all over this forum.

Oh, and I have one reason not to buy .... yet: funds !

I've already stated why I'm not buying one. My wife would kill me.

I've also indicated I'm pretty happy with Ricoh being on the back, and it won't influence my decision in the least when and if I decide to upgrade.

We've also established that some people think having Ricoh on the back of the K3 body is a bad thing. In the 762 comments so far I'm yet to see anyone provide a rational argument for why it's a bad thing, but I suppose people are entitled to think whatever they like, regardless of how illogical it may be......

No kidding. You can see how it would become a lightning rod for silly humor.

Much of the thread is actually about the thread, or about how the thread has become about the thread, which is not only delightfully meta, but a great example of how random factors can cause a thread to grow, mutate, evolve, beat up other threads and take their lunch money, and ultimately destroy Tokyo.
