Yep...leaking oil...unfortunately the issue with many an English vehicle manufactured, prior to the 1980's.
I have two motorcycles...a '67 Matchless 750 (made in August, 1967 at the Plumstead Road, London factory) and a '78 Yamaha SR 500 (big single) and they both live next to each other, in our large shed.
Under the crankcase of the Matchless is a large cake tin, that comes close to filling every 6 months with Castrol oil...the Yamaha has no cake tin, nothing under it's crankcase...as it does not drip any oil. In the winter, in our garage, our son parks his newer BMW G/S motorcycle....nary a drip comes from the crankcase.
And then of course there are the Lucas electrics ...in my Matchless. Many of us know British vehicle electrics, were often made by Jos. Lucas, Prince of Darkness.
But that's another story.
But having said all that I'll never sell my old.... True Brit....the Matchless Scrambler. It has lots of character for a machine.
