You're right, of course. I'm only calling it chain oil by habit.

I use this stuff: Professional Chain Lube - Fenwicks Bike Maintenance Products but I have no idea what's in it. All I know is it works and those skinny Ultegra 11-speed chains seem to last longer than when using other lubricants. Quite some Km's on this chain already and hardly any wear to the cassette and chain still well within spec.

Hey Mark - that rear shifter cable has a lot of miles on it, it may be time to think of replacing it

Kudos, Mark, for going with Ultegra instead of Dura Ace. Dura Ace, and its counterpart in the Mt Bike groupo XTR, is a ripoff. The specs vs Ultegra don't come close to justifying the double cost.
Keep in mind, however, that stretch is not the only metric of chain wear. Sideplay is an issue as well but there is no standard as to how to quantify that. If shifting is suffering look to the chain as well as the cable and housing.
My all time favorite lubricant is Boeshield T9 (developed by Boeing, hence the "boe...". Once dried it runs very clean and, as a rust preventative for guns, knives, etc. nothing short of grease beats it.

Wow! I've been away from my bike shop long enough now that I'm starting to miss it just a bit. WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ME? MAKE IT STOP!

Stick around long enough and you get a bachelor's degree, maybe even a PhD.

A PhD.

Boy that would be something.

Why I'd be....'drum roll'.....Dr. Lesmore. I'd take off the '49' though, as leaving it on may just confuse people.

But then if I was a 'Dr.' people might ask what am I a Dr. in. Maybe I better stop while I'm ahead...the further I go...I just seem to be Piling it higher and Deeper.

Will she at least let you have the bike in the bedroom?

Hey, there are plenty of "doctors" that never bother with blood, guts and bones.

11 speed?

Is that all your bike has?

I thought the newer bikes all had 37 or something.

It got replaced yesterday!

Bike had a full service yesterday. That was the only thing that needed replacing.

You're 100% right. There's really only a weight difference between the newer Ultegra and Dura Ace. Bike had a service yesterday. Only thing that needed replacement was the rear shifter cable. My longstanding mechanic is very good and not too expensive.

I've never seen Boeshield here. Will have to keep an eye out.

Two cogs on the front and 11 on the back makes for 22 speed. There's rumour of a 12-speed road cassette and derailleur coming later this year or next but so far Shimano has only released a 12 speed MT cassette and derailleur.
