Cool. I've never seen one in a crate before.

This video shows the process. Keep in mind the colossal size of these things. Over 125 feet long. I read an article about the process, and VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions are a concern, given the large quantities of chemicals used. Manufacturers are taking measures to catch the VOC emissions during the vacuum Infusion process, thereby resulting impact on the environment.
Very cunning. The largest ones have a rotor diameter of 220m so 721 feet, give or take. That makes each blade at least 355 feet long!

We don't have anything that size here. But the ones we do have still require amazingly large concrete footings. Each footing for the ones we have here is 375 cubic metres of 30MPa concrete and 28 tonnes of reinforcing steel. Now, take into account that each concrete truck transports 6 cubic metres of readymix and you'll see that, for each footing, that means 63 concrete truck loads! At four trucks an hour, you're still looking at a 16 hour continuous pour.

Heck no. Will never happen here. NZ is nuclear free. (Well not really. We have nuclear medicine but that's about it)

NZ's Nuclear Free policy caused a bit of a diplomatic staunch with the USA in around 1985 (if I recall correctly) and resulted in President Reagan changing NZ's status from "Close ally" to "Friend".

Another Saturday at the Big Shed. Gonna be there on Sunday too.

Time and a half Saturday, double time Sunday, so, meh. Only 23 (or so) weekends to go. I'm gonna miss the money.

Another one in Laramie, Wyoming, again, destined for a wind farm assembly site.

There is a blade inside this crate. Somewhere in Texas.

Actually they are simply clear resin when they come out of the mold.

Blades are of composite construction. A clamshell mold, dry fiberglass layup, foam and balsa core, more fiberglass and carbon fiber, vacuum bagged and resin infused. After the resin is cured, the blade is popped from the mold, mold flashing trimmed, then prepped and painted.

This video shows the process. Keep in mind the colossal size of these things. Over 125 feet long. What about retiring for Monday to Friday, so you only work on the premium rate days. You have a rich uncle who can afford it.

Relevance? The question was, did I see birds... I did.

An earlier question was did I see dead birds... I didn't.

My reference was to the danger of Electrical / Magnetic Field pollution not of being electrocuted. And the dangers to high voltage workers from EMFs are well documented.

There was a helicopter crash near Georgian Bay a few years ago where some line workers lost their lives. There was lot's of press at the time. Many of us know these things, without even knowing a "a guy".
